I like bob melvin as a manager
He's made a number of decisions that I really agree with
But when it comes to making out a lineup he is absolutely clueless
I cannot see one reason why matt chapman continues to get three or four in the line up
He is exactly what I said.He was before we got him a two thirty six Hitter
And I see Nick Ahmed has reverted back to what I said he was... incompetent with a bat in his hands.
I It's one thing to be patient. It's another to be stupid

I will take clueless one step further
We have virtually no off days for the next ten days or so and we go with an opener
We have bullpen problems as it is, And by doing this stupid move we deplete Things even further.
This is the kind of stupid.I would have expected from gabe kapler, Not bob melvin

I really hope you're wrong.
I really do
It pains me to think a general manager.Has that much control over the manager of a baseball team?Whether it's our team or another team

I'm not sold on Melvin. I'm not sold on the team.

Hard to be sold on a team that continues to underachieve at a phenomenal rate
I've squabbled with all of our managers and the decisions they've made
Especially captain ego
Melvin first irritated me when he refused to put the bunt on a couple times in a recent series. And then again with this crazy. What are you thinking line ups
But we could have done a lot worse than him

There was no reason to use the opener, especially with Mason Black doing well in Sacramento.

There wasn't. And honestly, Reed, that ticked me off.
As I said, NO off days coming up for an already under performing bullpen.
To me that's not just foolish, but down right stupid.

I agree, Reed. In the past few years I didn't question the opener too much, because we had a sketchy rotation. But this season we have a very solid rotation with depth in our farm system. Black could and should have been called up.

Also, it is apparent that Slater no longer has any business occupying a major league roster, especially with youngsters like Ramos and Matos languishing in AAA. Since they pinch hit for Yaz yesterday after hitting a home run earlier in the game, it shows that Zaidi is calling the shots and Melvin is a yes-man.

Geez...Reed and boagie, I wish... I REALLY WISH I could agree with you, but darn it! I just can't!
As much as I'd LOVE to see Slater gone, he's been hitting the ball hard with no luck.
And Melvin said before the season began he was going to platoon in RF and 1B
To me this looks like a guy who is true to his word.
I wish it weren't so... but that's what I see

I'm thinking that they think Soler and Chapman are hitting into bad luck because their exit velocities are high. If their thinking is based on exit velocities, I guess this matches up with their roster and lineup decisions but I would prefer that they be more result based. If a guy hits a homer early in the game, I would not be so quick to sub him out for a platoon advantage. Yaz used to hit lefties better than righthanders until Kapler used Yaz strictly as a platoon piece.

This metrics crap has gone way too far for me.
Kapler was the worst in using it.
I agree with you, Reed. I would not be so quick to pull a guy especially if he's swinging well, as Yaz.
Now, the flip side to that argument is this: BY doing a strict platoon, that gets guys who wouldn't play much some NEEDED at bats.
Flores is a great example.
He's very sure handed at 1B, and he is one of the most clutch hitters we have.
personally, I'd think about...no I WOULD sit Chapman for a couple of games and play Flores at 3B.
We simply can't go on with Chapman's anemic bat.
Then again, the favoritism Melvin shows for guys who've played for him before is off the charts.
Ahmed and Chapman being the two.

The irritating thing about Kapler was that I believe he felt that using ipads and all the statistics made him some sort of baseball intellectual in a similar way that Joe Maddon did and to purposely make non-traditional moves to illustrate how "smart" he was. Even recently, he continued his virtue signaling by mentioning that he is working closely with a woman farm director and living in a very international area. Good for him, I guess but glad he's gone. All the tech he used merely levelled the playing field for him and did not make him smarter.
