I'm a big nickname guy.
Not stupid nicknames l but creative ones.
The 90's were full of what I call lazy nicknames like K-Rod and others of that ilk.
NO creativity what-sol-ever.
But creative ones Like:
Will The Thrill
The Little Scooter
Say Hey.
The Baby Bull
Pee Wee
I can't nickname everyone on this current club, and whatever I pick MUST fit.
I've come up with 2 for this team.
Fish---Thairo who fishes for EVERY breaking ball down and away that he sees.
Scoop--For Matt Chapman who SCOOPS up everything he can get his glove on.

I don’t like the nicknames that describe body parts like Ernie Lombardi's and Jeff Leonard's and Nyjer Morgan’s is bad as a self made alter ego. Also there are a lot of “Rube”, “Dummy”, “Red” etc that I never cared for.
Cepeda's nickname is interesting because his father was "Perucho" (the bull) and thus Orlando was Baby Bull.

I don't care for those older ones, either, Reed, but that was a different time.
But players HAVE to do better than lazy crap like K-Rod, and F-Rod and so forth.
That's just lazy.
Oh.
Wait.
Lazy perfectly describes Millennials and Z's

In the past, a lot of the nicknames came from sportswriters or public. Now a lot comes from the players themselves or other players or broadcasters.
The one I don't care for is "BoMel" for Bob Melvin and I don't care for the bunch of stupid nicknames Brian Murphy on KNBR comes up with (P-Conn, Waterboy, PauleyMac, and so forth). I get that Brian Murphy is trying to be hip and one of the boys but if you listen to him for more than about five minutes, it is pretty obvious that it is forced, not hip, and not funny. The rest of the crew is kind of irritating as well with Markus's caustic personality and the departed PauleyMac's Grateful Dead obsession. I'm not sure where they get these guys from and its a lot to put up with to get nuggets of information from Krukow and Kuiper.

BoMel is stupid beyond belief. And lazy. That' not even slightly creative.
P-Conn and the PauleyMac are right there with it.
Waterboy ain't bad.
Bottom line is, I don't care who creates them, just be creative

When talking about nicknames which team a player played for made no difference in my discussion
I was just talking about players with creative nicknames nothing more

The Waner nicknames were derived from Brooklyn-ese - Paul being the "Big Poisen" (big person) and Lloyd being the "little Poisen"
