Roger and I used to go back and forth about lineups.
Yeah. Big surprise there.
I wanted a speed guy who could bunt, if needed to, in the two hole.
He argued that the current strategy was for there to be a power guy in the 2 hole because after the first time through the line up, there WAS no lead off spot, really.
This was during the time when the Cubs put Kris Bryant in that 2 spot.
Okay.
I didn't like it, but understood.
Thus, when a Tatis hits 2 hole, I understand that, too.
Tatis can run.
At the time, so could Bryant.
Which very slowly has brought me to my point of this post.
Why in the world is Soler, who wears an anchor on each shoe, hitting 2 hole?
Power?
I get it.
But Wade is NOT going to hit 30 HR's behind him.
A double by Wade WON'T score Soler.
So what's the rational?
Beats me!
To me, it's foolish.
I think it's MUCH smarter, if you want a power guy 2 hole, to hit Chapman there.
NOT what I would do, but it makes more sense than Soler because Chapman is at least above average in foot speed.
Me?
I'd much rather:
Lee Estrada Wade Soler Chapman Conforto RF Bailey SS
For me, 4 - 5-6 are flexible spots that could be flip flopped in any order. No reason to lock the lineup in as I suggested.
I just don't get Soler 2 hole.
I just don't.

Soler in the 2 hole is temporary. They feel his timing is off, not fast enough for fastballs and not selective enough for the breaking stuff. As a #2 hitter, they are hoping he sees more fastballs and get his timing back.

I figured that... but I STILL contend it's dumb!
what...he'll get 1 more ab than hitting 4th?
Not worth the potential to NOT score a run
