In light of my recent statement, "The Biggest Choke I've ever seen by a Giant team," I must also recognize some good stuff.
1-A couple of months back I wanted to cut Wilmer Flores loose.
Mistake. For me, this dude wins the Tough Guy award on this team for many reasons.
Firstly, he always gives great at bats regardless of the game situation.
Secondly, though he does NOT have great range, if he gets to the ball, 99 times out of 100, he makes the play.
Thirdly, He didn't give an INCH in the 10th when he dug out that low throw and put the tag on that guy.
He stuck his face and body in there and hung tough!
2-Blake Sabol is close to a terrible defender where ever he plays.
He's shaky in the outfield under fly balls, and he all too frequently boxes pitches that go for past balls, as we saw again last night.
BUT, and I've said this before, BUT, this kid can hit!
He has a plan, and win or lose, he, too, gives a quality at bat.
I mean, for Heaven's sake! he's a rookie and doesn't know hardly any of the pitchers!
3-Even though sweeping the Rockies was exactly what we needed, they aren't a good team.
But we did it when we had to!
After all my talk of this group choking, again last night, twice they rallied from behind when I thought they were dead...to win.
That shows grit and guts and wanna.
4-All through August and into September my prayer was that, near the end, these guys would FINALLY start to hit.
And they have.
Even JD who, if I'm in charge, is not here next year.
Yaz and Haniger again look comfortable.
Wade has begun to hit the ball hard again and STOP the constant popups.
Walter Whiff, JD Davis, is making more and more contact, too.
5-The bullpen, especially Tyler, Alexander and Jackson, IMHO, are showing signs of wearing down; that all the bullpen games are catching up with them.
Even Doval isn't the guy he was earlier.
6-Cobb's performance was beyond gutty last night. I've PITCHED with injuries, and to go out and do what he did last night?
Wow! Impressed the pop tarts outta me!
Still teams to crawl over, but at least we didn't roll over and die
