From I'm reading lately, it seems the kid I like a lot, Wade meckler, has taken a lot of bad routes to balls.
Honestly, that is not what I wanted to hear, and bring backs memory of Marvin Benard.
I don't think it's too much to ask for a player known for Speed, to have understood good routes to the ball by the time they get to the big leagues. Not too much to expect at all.
I'm a big believer in the fact that players at this level cannot be caught take better routes. I believe this is something instinctive that they learned since they were little, and that if they haven't learned it by now, they are not going to learn it.
And that is incredibly disappointing because I really like this kid

I like Matos' routes in CF a lot better. From what I've seen, boagie, I agree.
I love Meckler, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure he has the instincts for CF... and that's okay.
There were a lot of good outfielders who were better on the corners than in CF.
Matos might have had a bad moment or two... but over all, much better routes to the ball.

Matos is impressing me more and more. And its worth noting that when he's been with the team they've won, when the times they sent him down they went on losing streaks. He gets on base and he hits to all parts of the field and it seems like he's always coming around to score. I'd like to see him and Estrada 1-2 in our lineup daily.

Krukow spoke about Matos this morning saying that the improved defense is related to the improved offense, he's taking his problems at the plate into the field less than before.

His ab's just keep getting better and better, and wow! Has he shown some bat speed!
When he learns the pitchers, IMHO, we have a keeper in CF.
I do NOT agree with Kuip and Kruk talking about how fast he is.
I just don't see it.
To me, he's just slightly faster than Wade... which puts him with above average speed.
Thairo is fast!
Meckler is fast!
Matos ain't slow, just not fast.

Personally speaking, we do NOT need 14 pitchers; not with us NOT going with so many bullpen games anymore.
I release Wood. Stripling has, gawd I hate to say this, more value than Wood.
I release DeJong.
Paul will just not hit enough and I'd use Casey at SS over him.
Too much swing and miss from DeJong, and Casey has pretty much rectified that problem.
I send Bart back to SAC. I'd love to keep him, but NOT at the expense of Matos.
But more than likely, they'll keep DeJong and send Casey down.
MISTAKE!
But then, as far as I'm concerned, that what leadership has done all season long; make mistake after mistake after mistake.

They'll probably send Winn, Schmitt, and Bart back to Sac since they have options. That would be a mistake. I would do what you suggest to DFA Wood, DFA deJong, and Bart to sac.

I agree, and I think the leadership of Sabean and Bochy would agree with us.

My three moves really make the best sense for the team for so many reasons.
1-Wood is dead weight. With each outting he continues to prove he can no longer get the job done, and, as much as I hate to admit it, both Junis and Manaea are better options.
2-Even though DeJong has hit better, his track record is NOT good. It's a history of bust or boom... with more bust than boom
3-Bart, though nice to keep, is simply an extra player who would not play.

Wood is a free agent at the end of the season and the last start was a "prove it" start becuase he was the one who was complaining the most about the use of the opener. His recent face plant has likely finished him as a Giant after this season and I believe he should be cut loose before the end of the season. The reason why he would not be back is that the Giants have a lot of Rule V candidates this next off season and they need every 40 man roster slot they can get and not waste the slots on below average pitchers. Three pitchers on the Rule V cusp are Jensen, Murphy, and McDonald.

They may not be quick to move deJong because he is hitting .313 for September. However, the BABIP in September is really high so his production is probably an illusion. I am not a fan of this guy but I can see how they would hang onto him for the rest of the year. They should expect .230 production.

That is exactly what I was thinking and what I'm concerned about.
I'd rather have Casey at SS

Stripling has already committed for 2024. Manaea might opt out and he might decide as late as the end of the season. Conforto, not sure. They will probably not protect Hjelle, Wisely, and possibly Villar.

I don't know enough about Fitz or McDonald or Teng(never heard of him), but Hjelle, IMHO, has virtually pitched himself off the roster.
Sad about Villar. I had really high hopes for him last year.
As I said earlier, there is no reason NOT to cut Wood loose now in favor of Stripling.

Fitzgerald has power-speed combination but strikes out a lot. Teng is probably the most consistent at Sacramento this year of all the ones that did not get promoted. Probably has surpassed Hjelle.
