It's way way WAY to early to tell, but at first glace, 9 1/3 ip and 16 ks, it appears to me that Harrison has even better stuff than Timmy; who, when healthy, had AWESOME stuff!
In a year or two..IF...IF...IF he continues to improve and grow, Harrison will be the acknowledged ace of the staff, and not web.
It sure would be nice if Whisenhunt turns out to be as good as we hear.
That would give us an awesome top 3 starters.
And if Beck turns out to be as good as he was vs Atlanta, that would give us four.
That's one HECK of a lot of speculation, but it DOES give us hope for the future because, less than 2 days ago, as far as pitching goes, short of big FA signings, I didn't see much hope.

In the next FA class, starting pitching will be the strongest position. The key for the Giants is to not get so caught up with Ohtani that all the good FAs go elsewhere like they did last off season when they were so intent on Judge that they lost out on a lot of players who might have helped.

Man, do I agree with you!
Problem is, FZ is always looking to make a big splash, so likely he'll pursue big names like Otahni which, given his arm problems I think is a big mistake

Maybe they need to split it up. FZ can go after Ohtani but make sure Putila goes after the starting pitching at the same time.

I wish I could see that happening, but I just don't. I would like Whisenhunt brought up at some point in September and given a few Innings to see how he does.

Harrison has sure been impressive. He's got a great slider and changeup, and I know he's had control issues, but it certainly didn't look like it last night. I am a little more optimistic about our chances in the post-season with him in the rotation. I'll be a lot more optimistic if we can get another frontline starter.

If I were the Giants I'd take a long look at Trevor Bauer this offseason. I know Boly will hate that idea, but in our situation now, we need to fill at least 2 spots in the rotation next season.

When Webb goes today, that will be three straight days without using an opener. That is what Harrsion gives them.

I am not crazy about the idea because I think he's a clubhouse issue. Which is what I think Carlos R was. Not a team player, but playing for himself. Trevor Bauer has great stuff, but I'd like a clubhouse that's all on the same page

Roberto Ortiz was the ump behind the dish Monday night and he had a generous strike zone. Umpscorecards graded him about 89% accuracy and favored the Giants about an extra run. This is not to say that Harrison did not have a good outing but we need to temper the enthusiasm a bit.

Cobb has a club option that they will probably exercise. That being said, Bauer has done his time and might be worth a look. Compared to Wander Franco, Bauer looks like a Boy Scout. Snell, Lorenzen, Flaherty, Urias, Montgomery, Giolito etc are some of the names available also.

I can't argue with the Umpire scorecard, but what I can say is that that umpire called pitches that I can continually see called all years all year long. Let's face it we've all seen pictures 678 baseballs wide of the strike zone being called strikes!

I'll just say this:
Based upon my experience as a player, coach and fan, AFTER talent, I want a player who is team-compatible.
Listening to Rodon's comments last year, IMHO, he was NOT TC
I fear the same from Bauer though I have no actual information which leads to believe so.
IF...IF I'm management, I either move Manaea somehow some way, even if I have to eat some contract to do so.
All that great stuff! And so little command.
For a ML pitcher, not acceptable.
Stripling is a different story.
I have no way of knowing, but I'll BET he wasn't healthy coming out of ST.
Barry Zito 2.0 maybe.

Ortiz' strike zone is considered the worst and the most inconsistent in the major leagues, ahead of only Angel Hernandez.

Baer is the guy who is cognizant of having a lineage of superstar players on the Giants (Mays, McCovey, Clark, Clark, Bonds, Posey, Bumgarner) but my thinking is that they do not go after Ohtani exclusively and neglect other spots. They need to extend the lineup, they need pitching and defense. Baer has been and will continue to be the guy who doesn't get it.

Bauer is definitely a guy who plays for the name on the back of the jersey. In the past, he has used social media as a weapon harass a couple of women and has never been shy to speak his mind. I think he's one of the biggest DB's in sports but he's been out of MLB for 2&1/2 years. If he has shown remorse and feels he has learned his lesson, maybe he might be worth a look.
