Having now seen so many of our kids play quite a bit, I thought now was a good time to give an evaluation.
Bailey-The kid can play! And, as Flemming pointed out, he rises to the occasion rather than being over whelmed by it.
The more I watch him hit, the more impressed I become. And defensively? Wow!
Casey Schmitt-Love... LOVE his glove and arm! How could you not!
But it is becoming alarming how LITTLE contact he is making at the plate. Not even foul balls.
Even WHOOSH! Swing and Miss JD is making more contact.
I used to feel relatively confident he would hit... but lately? Hmmm.
Matos-Since he's been called back up, we've seen a different hitter. The swings are no longer tentative as they were earlier. I think he's a player.
Meckler-Way over his head right now. Way over! Plus, he's got a loop in his swing, that, IMHO, is being exploited by ML pitchers. He needs to be sent back to AAA. He has a lot to learn.
But I want him back next season. I think he, too, is a player.
Sabol-I think the kid can flat out hit! But as I keep saying, he's a back up catcher and a DH FIRST. Watching him play the OF, even on balls he's caught, he scares me. He's unsure under most flyballs. At least that's what I see.
Ryan Walker-Gotta love the grit in this kid! Fearless! But...BUT... he needs a change up or a splitter because everything he throws is hard. He offers nothing to keep hitters off balance speed wise.
Heliot Ramos- I've been impressed since his recent call up.
But sitting him so much is just going to hurt the kid. from what I've seen, he's better the more he plays.
Beck? I'm ixy-dixy on this kid. Everyone raves about his 'stuff,' but honestly, I haven't seen great stuff. What I have seen is a pitcher without great, or even good command.
Breaking balls often just roll up there. Like his velocity, though. Wish he had better command of his fastball as he just doesn't locate consistently.
I don't think I've missed anyone, Wise and others not-with standing.
Look forward to your feedback.
