He over managed in the third inning, and then he let somebody pitch to Pete Alonzo
That is so far up the stupid scale, it can't even be measured!

I think the sabermetricians or those who try to be sabermetricians suffer from what is known as "recency bias". in other words, a tendency to favor the latest stat or strategy over 100 year old methods.
I hope I'm wrong but what I'm afraid happened today was that Kapler knew this game was being broadcast nationally on ESPN and he wanted to make unorthodox moves just to show the world how brilliant he was. It seems he was managing to get style points and not necessarily the "W". Mets gave up eight walks and 3 HBP and the final outfield was Sabol-Wade-Joc. Well, GK has succeeded in showing off the emperor's new clothes.

Reed that is a very astute observation! And it wouldn't surprise me at all if every word of what you said was

All the local media has been going "WTF" about the pitching change. That is what is leading me to guess that GK was trying to show off., especially if Stripling is not hurt. Supposedly, GK told a reporter before the game that Stripling was good for 60 pitches and he pitched 4 innings in his last rehab start so its not clear to me what GK was trying to accomplish.

Around the 2nd inning, those guys in the booth asked how long Strip was going to go, and Kaptain Ego sort of hedged the question saying something to the effect that "the situation is fluid..." Which means? Darned if I know! I've thought about what you said, and I AGREE with you; going up against Buck, and on National TV, he saw it, IMHO, as HIS time to shine. Ooops! And if you listened to those morons in the booth, all they did was SING HIS PRAISES about how brilliant he was! IMHO, both Cone and Perez are an absolute waste of time. Neither adds anything to the broad cast. I think Mark Grant is THE WORST I've ever heard... but Cone and Perez aren't far behind.
