Ever since Anthony dropped a piano bench on his stove, he has not been the same pitcher.
He hasn't been just awful, he's been Sean manaea awful.
We simply cannot keep running him out there, and watching him get lit up every time.
It's time to roll Tristan Beck out there, or anybody but Anthony.
I still contend we have to make a trade for a hurler. Because Keaton winn will take one slot, but we're still missing another

I'd like to release him, but I think we need to figure out our rotation first.
I think they still want to get Kyle Harrison pitching deeper into games before they call him up.
Winn had a nice start, but I think he needs a few more under his belt.

No question Keaton needs more starts. All I'm saying is that it is three appearances he has shown more stuff than I've seen from Anthony. I still think Anthony still has a toe problem or because of the toe problem is release point is off. And if it's off, he hasn't been able to fix it in six or seven starts.

He needs an IL stint or he runs the risk of becoming the latest Dizzy Dean

Totally agree!
Then again, that's what I've been saying for weeks now

deSclafani also mentioned that he ran out of gas. Stamina problem, also. Krukow talked about him this morning and said this kind of talk was surprising because everyone is tired going into the all-star break and might not resonate well in the clubhouse.

Now he has an elbow strain. Likely due to attempting to compensate for the toe injury.

Which is pretty much what I have been saying all along. All of this problems go right back to that toe injury.
At the time I referenced dizzy Dean's injury, and I find myself thinking I was more correct than I thought.

At the time I referenced dizzy Dean's injury, and I find myself thinking I was more correct than I thought. The news is that he is shut down for the season. Beck and Stripling seem to be seizing the three and four spots so losing deSclafani is not as big of a deal as it could have been. BTW, Beck was obtained in the Marc Melancon trade so sometimes it takes that long to evaluate how trades work out. So much for Rog saying that deSclafani fits the definition of a #2 starter because at the time he could not name 60 starters better than Anthony. Truth is, there are over 150 starters and openers better than deSclafani mainly because he is unable to stay healthy.

Rog was nuts then, and his thoughts about the guy are even nutsier now because I would bet that he still believes them.

And oh Lord, how I miss that education... like I miss pulling out splinters or having a tooth pulled!

DeSclafani is shut down for the rest of the season after getting platelet rich injection. The end of the year has a lot of Dodgers, Braves, and Reds games and he has tended to struggle with the Dodgers, Braves, and Reds anyway so the drop off isn’t as big as it could have been. Krukow felt he had some sort of mental block when facing the Dodgers and Padres because he would start to nibble with those two teams in particular (lots of walks). I am hoping he can get better for next season but, like Boly said, he Dizzy Dean'ed his career.
Dizzy Dean's case is probably the most famous since it happened off of a line drive during the 1937 All Star Game and because Dizzy was a flamboyant character. When he was told that the foot was fractured, he said "Fractured, hell, the damn thing's broken!". He tried to come back from the toe injury too fast and developed a sore arm. Initially, they thought it was just a bruise and so he missed only one start after the All Star Game. He made two starts using a new motion to avoid landing on the fractured foot and hurt his arm. In fact, the arm hurt him more than the foot. After he found out his foot was broken (they diagnosed the broken foot in August after two starts), he still made five more starts, with two complete games. Frankie Frisch, the manager did not make Dean pitch against his will and Branch Rickey suggested he sit out the 1938 season.
One misconception about Dean's career was that he was washed up after the injury but he pitched decently in 1938 for the Cubs and helped them get into the World Series. Dean made 13 starts, had 7-1 W-L and 1.81 ERA. His velocity was down but he was pitching more with grit. Dean probably did not know better but deSclafani has Dean's case to look back at and what happened to Diz is probably what is happening to deSclafani and if he is not careful, it could have career implications.

It might not have ruined his career, but he was never the same.

Dean's shoulder injury cost him his velocity. His catcher Mickey Owen said he had nothing on his pitches. I guess it was a perfect storm of primitive medicine in those days as well as Dizzy's stubbornness and overconfidence. During the game, Gabby Hartnett kept calling for curves to Dimaggio and Gehrig but Dean insisted on fastballs because he was looking for strikeouts, resulting in a single and a home run. The Averill liner was also a fastball. After he left the game, Dean was actually more angry about the hits he gave up to Dimaggio and Gehrig than he was about the toe.
Hardball Times calls this the Dizzy Dean Injury Cascade and they believe Stephen Strasburg recently had this. He was having trouble with some pitching mounds, then he had shoulder stiffness and then a Tommy John. I think Jacob deGrom also had it with side issues leading to arm problems.
