A week or so ago when we played the Dodgers, they ran out 2 young starters against us that were flat out impressive! Miller and the other guy whose name I can't remember.
Both looked like big time guys for years to come, and I couldn't help but wonder when, or more importantly IF we would ever have a guy like that.
Well, based upon Keaton Winn's first 2 appearances, and his start yesterday... we might just have one.
You can see that he's still a little unpolished, but that is to be expected.
He throws strikes... and a lot of them.
And you have to love his splitter.
I would like to see him develop a breaking ball and/or another pitch to go with those two, but he showed a LOT of poise against a very dangerous line up.
I like Beck, too... but what disturbs me is how often he falls behind in counts. It's like he's afraid to challenge/attack the strike zone.
But honestly, you could have blown me over with a light breeze when I heard Kaptain Ego was giving the kid a start.
I really, REALLY didn't see that coming...
But it was long over due that he would give one of the kids a shot.
We sure need Winn to take control of one of the spots because that might help us NOT clean out the farm for an arm.
Then again, if you're Manaea, you have to wonder "what does this mean for me?"
Personally, I'd like to see Manaea moved or cut lose.
He was bad last year, and I don't see any improvement this year DESPITE of what Kruk and the party line is saying.
He lacks command and comes fat too often.
What I want is to see Hjelle and Beck kept on the roster, for Hjelle to get a couple of starts, and Junis and Manaea moved/cut.
Is either Beck or Hjelle ready for a start? Not sure... but I prefer either of them over Junis and Manaea.
