Okay. Here comes the jinx...
I recently posted that Wisely was way over his head at the plate... and that is still likely to be true.
But in these last couple of games, he's actually impressed me, getting the barrel on the ball a LOT, hitting it hard... but has nothing to show for it.
I've liked his play at 2B FAR better than Villar's... who, to be fair, has been decent over there.
He's shown decent to good range, with an above average arm.
I like... no LOVE his speed! This team simply does not have enough of that.
The only thing I don't understand about him is WHY in the WORLD is he down on the knob of the bat, like he's some kind of power hitter?
I don't get it. I really don't.
Make like Brandon Nimmo, Wisely, choke up for more bat control because you are NOT going to be a power hitter!
With Wisely, Stevenson (or Slater), Yaz and Estrada in the line up, we FINALLY have a team that can run!
Flores is a SOLID hitter; a professional hitter and he's a guy who can be counted on when it means the most.
But he's station to station as is Villar, Crawford, and JD.
I've been beating this horse since our park opened in 2000. In our place you MUST have a team that can run!
The OF is too large for slug-footed players, or, even below average runners.
And even though we got thrown out stealing twice last night, I would NOT stop running.
In fact, I don't think we try to steal often enough.
Being aggressive doesn't always mean you're going to make it.
Maury Wills stole 586 bases in his career, but was caught 208 times.
That means he was successful ONLY 73% of the time.
He was a good base stealer, but NOT an elite one like Ricky Henderson who had an 80% success rate.
My point is, RUN! The bitch about this team is that we almost always only score by the HR.
Look at what Thairo did for us last night; that first run DOESN'T happen if he doesn't steal the base.
We want to score in other ways, Kapler, then be aggressive!
Too much station to station with his style of managing.
