When I read today that the Giants were interested in Conforto, I did some research; 33 HRs in 2019, but then 2 down seasons. Injuries, I heard.
He's a RF, but I can't help but wonder; IS he someone who gets us better atheltically?
Strat rates him as a 1-13 runner, which means he's just a little faster than the average player.
Not always a good measure of athleticism, but at least it's something.
Can anyone tell me more about the guy?

I can tell you he'll take up a spot from a young player, so for me it's not a good idea. I'd rather see Ramos.

They just came to terms with Conforto. From what I remember about the guy, he used to be a slugger, got a shoulder injury. Average speed. I would rather see Ramos, also but I think the organization now doesn't think much of him after his disastrous 2022. Conforto is just a placeholder and, to be honest, I think his shoulder is a lot more iffy than Correa's ankle. I'm hoping this doesn't cost Wade Jr his roster spot.

I was thinking along the same lines as you. If hes healthy I like the deal.
I too, think they've soured on Ramos for whatever the Reason, but they should still give him a long shot, or at least a long look this coming season. They should not forget him nor blow him off

This does not mean Conforto makes up for Correa but it does improve the 2023 team. I think Ramos has more upside and I would like him to succeed but he has a lot of work to do.

I like the deal because basically, we will only have Conforto for only 1 year.
I believe he WILL be healthy enough to have a decent enough year that he will opt out.
Ramos has huge holes in his game. Huge holes!
Consider his minor league record:
1888 at bats
.260 average
552K's---That means he's struck out almost 30% of the time! Against minor league pitching!
ONLY 58 HRs. That means if he AVERAGED 400 at bats a season, that's only 12.3 HRs/year! For a guy with his power potential, that is flat out unacceptable.
Those are NOT numbers that even merit consideration much less a promotion.
They are border line terrible for such a highly touted prospect.
hey, I WANT to see the kids play. But I DON'T want to see them implode, ruin their confidence and their careers because they are far, FAR from ready.
So for ME, arguing that signing Conforto blocks Ramos' being promoted doesn't hold water UNTIL he proves he can hit minor league pitching.
So I like the Conforto deal. I see it as win-win for us.
