I was mildly interested when we 1st made the move to get Davis on the team, after all he had 22 home runs a year or so ago.
But the more I see him the more I don't like him. For a guy with all that power, and all that exit Velocity. he has too much swinging miss for me.
And it's not like he has a complicated swing. It's very simple it's direct to the baseball, without any wasted motion, or looping the bat at the top of his backswing.
He just misses the baseball too many times, and in my opinion there's no excuse for that

He is seen as a bridge from Longoria to Schmitt. In no way is he considered a cornerstone piece.

Understand... but offensively, Villar has already passed him at 3B, and though he's "okay" at 1B, my point remains; too much swing and miss.

What is odd is since the trade deadline, Davis is outhitting Juan Soto (.288/7hr vs. .244 5 HR). I realize small sample size and that Soto might be having a hard time adjusting to the new team. Also, Krukow said today that sometimes, leaving New York is a jumpstart. Farhan likes his exit velocities (top 25%) and his homers are not cheapies. Davis is a nice piece to have but I hope they do not consider him a cornerstone.

I agree with your analysis. He is a nice piece to have, but I certainly don't want him to be considered a cornerstone, as he said.
He has such a simple swing color I simply don't understand why he has so much swinging miss. It makes no sense!

He may not make the Mets' post-season roster. We've been disappointed by the trade deadline but this was a good trade Zaidi made.

No question, it was.
Then again, signing Ruf and expecting h to even come close to last year, at his age andost importantly AFTER a career year wasn't smart.
BFF had toomany DH-TYPE guys on the roster already at the time: La Stella Ruf Longoria Belt
Being loyal to your players is one thing, being foolish and blind another.

Holiday said the same thing when they re-signed Flores. Zaidi has stated that they need to get more athleticism but with the re-signing of Flores and possible re-negotiation for Longoria, each represents one spot less for athleticism. Im not happy that they are re-negotiating with Longoria. If so, LaStella should be gone and I feel there's no more room for Belt. As I mentioned before, in a vacuum, and if you consider each player separately, is looks like a good deal on the surface. If Zaidi puts all the slow guys together again, its a bad idea. The lack of athleticism is cheap but if everyone is like that, they will be exposed again, especially with new rules outlawing the shifts.
