In the past, I have seen both the manager and general manager canned for having their team do a preposterous belly flop like the Giants did this year.
Coming off a 107 win season... and then having a reasonable chance to finish dead last in the division because of what wasn't done, should be grounds for dismissal.
But it won't be, and honestly, if I was in charge I wouldn't fire them both either...yet.
As much as it pains me to admit, and it hurts to say this, I feel compelled to give Captain Ego and his boss (BFF) one more year to fix things.
Man! That hurts to say!
Fair is fair, and after 2 good, and 1 really good season, they deserve one more chance.
That said, come June/July of next year, of this club is floundering with veterans again, I'd open the door and shove them both through it.
I wouldn't wait, holding on to the ridiculous notion that "it takes just one hot week to get us back in the race!"
This club has problems by the bushel full! Problems that must be fixed.
What BFF does or doesn't do in the off season will tell me what kind of leader he is.
If he follows his track record of scraping the bottom of the barrel for flotsam; if he tries to spend so much money on getting a super star here that all he can do is field a 'competitive' team because he hasn't got the budget to fill out the roster as LA and SD did...well, for me, his fate is sealed. He will be exactly what I said he was.
I just want this season over.
I tune in every night and it's painful to watch.
Heck, I see myself praying for ball four because I know we can't hit!
Webb was right at the end of yesterday's game when he said, "Last year there was fire. This year... I don't know."
He should have said more; a lot more! Because he's right!

The talk this week especially from Krukow is that they feel the main reason why things went south this season is that the cornerstone guys (Posey - retired, Belt - injured, Crawford - injured, Longoria - injured)are pretty much gone. One good thing to come out of this year is that Bart has emerged as one of the replacement cornerstones but they are probably going to have to get at least two more to be competitive soon. The key is that the minor leaguers need to start to be productive. Its not as bad as it looked last month because Luciano is off of the injured list and is hot. Vaun Brown and Harrison continue to impress but need a little more refinement. I've been disappointed with Ramos and Long, I'm not sure if they need more work or its because they were shuffled between the big club and AAA so much.
They have their work cut out for them. They will need two cornerstone players, the team as a whole needs to get younger and more athletic, and the bullpen needs to be revamped. That's a lot of holes to fill all at once. They cannot count on Brandon Belt, Crawford, and Longoria anymore but I have this suspicion that all three are going to be back for 2023 and they are going to be ole aches and pains all over again.

We agree completely, Reed.
Personally, I hope they'll retires due to his continued knee injuries.
Same goes for Evan longoria.
What is really disappointing is Brandon Crawford's defense. That was always his best feature. But this year, and we saw it again last night, his throws are becoming erratic.
Do we have anyone ready to replace Evan Longoria third base? From what I've seen, Villar isn't quite there but I would not mind him getting a legit shot next year.
What I DON'T want to see is Flores penciled in there.
He is on beyond so. He clogs the bases and even though he's still a pretty good hitter, he's a double play Waiting to happen.

Krukow said today Crawford’s errors are contributed by Belt not being there as much.
I also hope Belt retires. I don't want him to end up like all those other ex-jocks who are barely able to walk and also not to tempt Farhan into re-signing him again.

Belt is done.. No way hes back.. Longoria most likely retires and Craw has another year on the contract. They should have plenty of money to spend on FA guys who are legit players.. The bullpen ERA with so many 4+ ERA guys have to be shitcanned.. Rondon prolly opts out which leaves us with a patchwork SA crew again.. Harrison should get a shot. Team has laid dead and arent playing for Kapler.. Regardless of the reason, he has to go.. Farhan is still ok but this offseason should be a great measure of his will to spend.. All in all a horrible season with no real future in sight.. Ty Giants ownership for being the cheapskates u are.. But who can blame you, when your fans are so gd damn stupid!!

holiday: being the cheapskates u are.
This is a sore point with me because they promised to loosen the purse strings when the ballpark debt service was paid off. The debt service has been paid off and the organization dives head first into a major new project called Mission Rock on the footprint of the parking lot. Mission Rock was promoted as being another stream of income for the Giants so they probably had to pay off contractors during the pandemic. Basically, Baer and ownership group keep making a lot of promises about the team but it is painfully apparent that it is about the bottom line. I get that they lost a lot of money during the pandemic but they seem to be taking it out on the fans, and trying to scrimp on the non-baseball side such as concession workers and so forth. It seems that there will never be a time when they will spend whatever it takes. There always seems to be some excuse or new project. Once Mission Rock gets done, there's probably going to be some new scheme like trying to stage the Summer Olympics or something.
If they really want to figure out how to do it, there is a model sports organization just a few blocks south of Oracle Park. They managed to build a new arena, entertainment district, and field championship teams and keep it sustainable.

Boly: Webb was right at the end of yesterday's game when he said, "Last year there was fire. This year... I don't know."
He should have said more; a lot more! Because he's right!
Estes tried to deflect around this subject this morning by saying that this particular group of players does not wear their emotions on their sleeve because any player who make the major league level cares a lot about their work. I do not agree with what Estes says. Webb is right.

Yes, you have to have an certain amount of ice in your veins to play under pressure, but you can't have the attitude that you're just punching the clock. Estes and Randy Winn played their careers like this, just a day at work.
