VERY glad to see Gonzalez got sent down
I saw a couple of weeks ago what Kapler commented on: defensive swings.
I should have commented on it when I first saw it but I was so disgusted with the team I didn't bother.
His outfield gafs, his ridiculous baserunning mistakes need correction.
Honestly, I don't see him, or any like player, being able to do much about them because both are INSTINCTUAL parts of the game.
If a player hasn't learned them by the time they reach the show,(which I REALLY don't understand!) I don't see them EVER getting much better.
Me?
Those are HUGE reasons not to include him in our future plans.
But since he has proven he can hit and handle the bat,we can get something for him.
And I would aggressively move him.

These issues could have and should have been corrected at this level, the lack of Kapler's crew being able to fix this stuff worries me.
I understand if they need more seasoning in the minors, but that's not the case with Gonzalez, and it wasn't the case with Bart either.

Initially, I thought a lot of the dropoff in in offense could be attributed to Ecker going to Texas but Texas' offense is struggling this year, also.

The coaching was supposed to be the thing that separated the 2021 Giants from the rest of the pack. Yesterday, Will Clark made a comment about the Giants' poor hitting and the team taking a break from batting practice.
The quote was: “I’ll just flat out come out and say it,” Clark said. “The Giants have optional batting practice. I would not option anything if I’m hitting .220 or .230. I would make it mandatory that you get out there and do your job. So I’ll chunk that one out there for ya. “Let’s do common sense here,” Clark added. “I play in Oracle Park 81 games out of a full season. Don’t you think I should be in that batter’s box and figuring out, ‘hey, if I hit the ball this way, it goes this way; if I hit the ball that way, it goes that way.’ The ball carries this day, the ball doesn’t carry or stuff like that; you need to be in the batter’s box to figure out what’s going on.”
“Practice hitting in your own ballpark so you become proficient in hitting at that ballpark. The last thing that I’m going to do is take time off from hitting in a place I hit 81 games a year.” Everyone not hitting well and then not doing the work is unacceptable.

Yeah, I read that this morning and I totally agree with him.
Kapler's..."these are adults," casual approach, IMHO, isn't working.
IMHO, again, it's time to place his boot on some fannies.
I mean if you look at just those players who are GROSSLY underachieving, regardless of status, it's astounding!
Yaz La Stella Crawford Wade Pederson Rogers Leone
I'm sure there are some I'm missing, but the first 5 UNDER PERFORMING, have just killed this team.

I think that the guys playing for contracts or up for arbitration realize they were being paid on a year to year basis and they cost themselves a lot of money. I realize Belt and Wade Jr were injured. Krukow says that Belt's knee is a constant pain and it's affecting everything he does on the field from hitting, fielding, and running. If the pain is making things no longer enjoyable, he's probably going to hang it up. A few days for Belt on the IL is a band aid measure at best. Yaz and Pederson cost themselves millions next season for their poor play this season. The guys who are having decent seasons are the one who did the work and Flores will definitely be rewarded. You mentioned Yaz having a vision problem and it has to be that if nothing else is bothering him physically. Yaz has always worked hard on whatever he had to so its not a question of effort for him. Poor bullpen management is hurting the pitchers Kapler leaned on most heavily last season. McGee is gone, Rogers, Leone, Littell have struggled most of the year. And Rog was telling us that they had a few days off in October, they should have been fine.
Crawford is one of my all time favorites but I did not appreciate his comments earlier in the season. He blamed the lockout for losing a lot of the hitting muscle memory over the past off-season because he did not have access to all the coaches. He lives in Arizona and could have worked with others during the lockout but its pretty apparent he didn't do much. Longoria said he re-injured his finger when he started increasing baseball activities in March. That means he probably did not pick up a bat all winter or else he would have re-injured it and had the surgery sooner. DeSclafani's ankle also got worse in the spring so he probably shut himself down all winter. Also Heliot Ramos has been struggling all year in AAA. It's pretty clear some of these guys have to put in the work over the 2022 winter. A lot of people in the organization from Farhan on down have blamed the lockout or the pandemic but you don't see other teams blame circumstances as much as the Giants have. Successful teams don't make excuses.

Boly: But since he has proven he can hit and handle the bat,we can get something for him.
Nowadays, everyone has all the information on everyone else so they cannot easily sneak a guy elsewhere, even for a bucket of baseballs. More junk seems to be coming in than going out. Indicative of poor scouting.

I look at players like Burrell, Ruf and so forth who really are detriments on defense. I'm NOT saying Gonzalez can hit like either, but I DO predict him being a 15-18 HR guy.

From everything I've read so far, I think most of the underperformers will be back. Yaz is going to cost about $5mm in arbitration and they like that. La Stella is under contract for $11 million, and I've heard they are trying to work out an extension with Pederson. Longoria has a $5 million buyout or $13 million to keep him so I think Farhan opts in since the difference is $8 million. I get that they cannot say anything about free agents now because it can be interpreted as tampering. I'm thinking and fearing that the 2023 version is going to look a lot like the 2022 version but I think we are at the tipping point where they have to get serious about competing in the NL West and not fart around hoping for wild cards. This will mean incorporating the youngsters and getting more foundational pieces. If they try to "run it back" again, its time to kick the Farhan bandwagon off the cliff.

You could very well be right... though with the way this debacle has gone, I think the odds are decent that BFF gets off his fanny and makes some good moves.
Longoria has to go, and honestly, though I like the guy, I'm not sure I want Flores back. He just clogs up the bases, and for a guy hitting something like .246, even with 17 HRs, he's just too expensive and too SLOW, and has such POOR RANGE any where but 1B, to keep.
Yaz is and continues to be an enigma.
Something is wrong with him; Bad wrong.
Part of me says let him walk the other part says, give him one more shot till the trading deadline.
