I'm not done dumping on BFF. Not by the proverbial long shot.
I have stated a ton of times that I'm not a fan of Kapler. To me he is the prototypical, arrogant, Millennial who talks down to people and always believes that he's the smartest guy in the room.
But as much as I despise the guy, his ability to manage has been severely hamstrung by the team he was GIVEN by BFF.
Consider: Ruff, Flores, Longoria, Crawford, Belt and La Stella are all basically station-to-station guys.
Now add to that list ANY catcher on the roster.
Kapler was given a team almost sans of any athleticism outside of Yaz, Thairo, Slater, Gonzalez and Wade.
That means that everyday you're fielding a team that can't run and has limited range in the field.
VS RHP
La Stella
Belt
Longo
Crawford
Catcher
That's 5 of the starting 9!
vs LHP plug in Flores for either Belt or La Stella and you've got the same slug foot kind of line up in the field and at the plate.
Now let's look at whom BFF added:
Davis and Mercedes...Neither of whom, though not slow, would be considered 'athletic.'
So, bullpen aside, how are you supposed to win with guys like that, that can't cover ground left or right?
Of that list only Crawford has any range.
Balls that athletic guys would field, go through... adding to pitches thrown and runs scored.
This, too, is squarely in BFF's lap.
THAT putz assembled this team in the off season, and I ask now, what I asked then: What is/was he thinking?
With LA and SD very athletic, especially LA, how are we supposed to compete?
His farm system is at least 2 to 3 years away from promoting players with even a chance to have an impact, and he keeps telling us he'll pursue free agents.
Yeah. Self delusion is so comfortable.
Like I've said before, with the rhetoric this guy spews, he should run for political office.
