I read Alec Pavlovic's article this morning on complications on the Carlos rodon trade.
I'm sorry, I'm just not buying it.
He can spread that nonsense all he wants, but the bottom line is this; we get one draft pick when he walks. We could have picked up multiple players if we moved him.
As we all know, drafting in Major League Baseball is not the same as drafting in football or basketball. It's a crapshoot. The players don't come into the league ready to play at the highest level.
And since it is a crapshoot, I will take multiple players over one player, because no matter how much you shake it you're taking the flyer on somebody or somebodies, and I would rather take a shot on a few rather than just one

Farman’s dumpster dives are a lot like the quantity you mention. They have a lot of other team’s ex high round draft choices like JD and Mercedes. I think the timing was atrocious because they gave too much attention to the Soto deal which they shouldn’t have been in on the first place while the Yankees and Twins looked elsewhere. Now they are stuck to risk up to $29 million if he gets hurt.

I read the Pavlovic article also and am now convinced it was a blown opportunity.

I believe both you and boagie mentioned that our front office really believes our fans are idiots.
But honestly, and I'm not trying to be political here, but that is typical Left Wing thinking; They ALMOST ALWAYS believe people will believe anything they spout... and always believe THEY are the smartest people in the room.

The vest majority of Giants fans ARE idiots. Just listen to KNBR calls and it's painfully obvious. The difference now is the gap of baseball knowledge between fans and management has changed. When Sabean and Bochy were running the show it was a significant gap, now with Zaidi and Kapler it's narrowed to almost no gap.

Swell... Just what I needed to hear...
Makes me not want to be a Giant fan anymore... but of course, I can't do that.

Most of the time, they don't take call ins, especially on weekdays.

Murph and Mac take calls in the morning, and as I recall FP takes some calls at night after the game. And they also comment on text ins and and respond sometimes to comments on their social media accounts. Beyond that, you can get a good sense of Giants fans' baseball intellect from going to the games, including spring training games. In my opinion most current Giants fans started following during the 2010 season. They're not bad people, they just don't have a very in-depth baseball knowledge. For instance I don't think they understand how hard it is to win a Championship because they started watching during a 5 year period where they won 3.

I started to hate to go to the ballpark about 2015. Too many people just go to drink and its a pain to deal with driving in, parking, and dealing with all the people, many of which are too inebriated. The Candlestick crowd used to drink a lot too but the Candlestick group seems less irritating. Now with Covid, its dangerous to go becuase of my age and I'm still getting over the Covid that started the middle of June. I may not try to go out there until after I retire. For some reason, Candlestick was my happy place but while Oracle is probably the best ballpark I've ever been to, I don't feel like its my happy place like Candlestick was. It's probably the fans.

Alex is a thin skinned apologist who doubles as an asshole.I find him boring and a shill for Giants ownership.. I wouldnt believe a word he writes about anything going on behind closed doors. Complications my ass.. Farhan himself stated on TV that the Giants were still in the race and that 2 weeks of bad baseball (prior to the deadline) isnt indicative of the teams potential.. LOl.. What an idiot

Even some of the usual shills (KNBR) are kicking Farhan to the curb, and rightfully so.

That is SOOOOOOOOOOOO good to hear!
A friend of mine sent me an article called "The Guys They Got Back," by Grant Brisbee and it was outstanding!
He contends we have every right to be furious with BFF, and, as I have been posting and posting and posting...getting multiple players back in lieu of just ONE, crappy, compensatory pick makes more sense than what he did.
And I also claim he's being dishonest in defending his actions saying, "we just didn't get the right deal."
To which I say, so... LOSING the guy and getting ONE is the better option? You're out of your freaking mind!
And as a Scott GREEDY-GREEDY-GREEDY Boras agent, he's NOT signing with us again.
In fact, after yesterday's lack luster performance in which he ONCE AGAIN struggled with command and the strike zone, I don't want him back!
No question he has moments when he's unhittable, but TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many games like yesterday when his pitch count gets up off the charts early BECAUSE he can't throw strikes often enough!
He's not the guy I thought he was, great stuff and all.

I'm not sure if its left or right wing as much as the guys who put too much faith in sabermetrics. Rog used to always think he was the smartest guy on the board because he would always follow the designer stats but would tend to minimize experience and gut feeling. Experience and gut are the result of years of knowing what things work and what things don't. Experience will tell you too many bullpen games will wear out the bullpen. It will also tell you when to platoon and when not to platoon or when to ignore pitch counts. Also, it helps to recognize when to use small ball. Experience is also valuable because it can help prevent one from saying something stupid. We've mentioned before that Kapler uses sabermetrics too much on an automatic basis with his platoon and lineup flipping and he's probably too arrogant to realize when not to use it. Jeff Young wrote an interesting article in Around the Foghorn about how Kapler's teams have a tendency to hit the wall when the calendar turns to September. Young seems to attribute it to poor bullpen management. I think its also because the rah-rah and virtue signalling gets old, especially if you have to share the same clubhouse for a few months.

Based upon his time in Philly, and how our pen was late in the year last year, I'd offer that Young is pretty much right on the money

I simply don't go very often anymore because it's a ripoff. I enjoyed Candlestick, back when things were inexpensive. Everyone complained about the cold and wind but I only remember a few nights where it was uncomfortable. We knew the ushers, and the vendors..it seemed more like a friendly atmosphere. I don't go as much as I did when they played at Candlestick, but when I go now I always wish I had stayed home and watched it on the TV.

When Sabean and Bochy were running the show it was a significant gap, now with Zaidi and Kapler it's narrowed to almost no gap. I think most people do not truly understand the game. It takes years to figure it out. I’m not sure if I mentioned before but the worst fans were in Anaheim, they only cared about chatting with friends or getting food. Dodger fans are slightly better but it’s still a social club like an outdoor bar. Oracle fans are average bad. I liked going to Wrigley because people were into it and talking baseball more.

Oracle has become a bird bathroom because the birds have figured out to come in at about the 6th inning to scavenge food scraps. Management says clapping and making noises scare off the birds so that’s why you hear cheering at weird times late in games. The cheapest solution to the birds.

Will Clark gave a shout out to Candlestick in his 22 retirement speech and helped me to coalesce thoughts on Oracle and Candlestick. As Boagie says, oracle is extremely expensive. It can cost $100 a person to park, eat, drink, and tickets, maybe more. I guess it gets hard for hard-core fans on economics alone. Candlestick felt a lot more accessible. It felt you could watch batting practice more and talk with players. One day we were able to chat and get autographs from Chili, Sadek, Breining, and Ozzie Smith. Now, no way that happens in Oracle or even in Scottsdale. Now, there is no Candlestick, a Safeway is built where Seals Stadium was, and San Francisco has become a homeless toilet.

I heard that an engineer's report said that if they angled Candlestick a few feet differently, they would have gotten shelter from the wind from Bay View. when they did their wind studies, they went at about 1:00 when the weather was usually nice. they neglected at 3:00 and after when the winds and the waves picked up. You're right, we knew everyone there, even the mariachi band but now we can't.

Just chalk it up to the gazillions of bad decisions he made when he was the owner.
