Lots of talk out there about the potential of the Giants trading for Juan Soto.
Though so many fans and possibly writers think this was a good idea, I, for one, do not.
Farhan came to us with a desire and goal to build a strong farm system, which he has done. 2 then strip it clean to get an admittedly great player, to me is counterproductive.
Having to sign him for 15 years ties up over 400 million, and again, in my opinion as the ability to blow up in the team's face.
If the plan was to build through the farm system, stick with the plan!
I just do not think it is smart strategy to sign a player that cost this much and not be able to put a great team around him.
I would much rather be patient, and put together a team that can contend for years and years and years, then put together a team what were always struggling for pieces.

A potential Soto trade is parallel to the Cabrera trade. They think Detroit won that trade since the traded prospects didn’t pan out. I think, however, that it can blow up in the Giants’ face with one injury. Very risky. I’m leaning no.

Yeah, I read that article on the Detroit trade this morning.
I know every fan base, every team thinks that their prospects at their trading are awfully good, but I'm betting get the 4 that we would have to give up we're better than the 4 that Detroit gave up
He was hoping our general manager is smart enough not to do that

It all depends on how much the Nationals are looking for. Maybe the Giants could swing something, but not if it costs us too much.

It all depends on how much the Nationals are looking for. Maybe the Giants could swing something, but not if it costs us too much. boagie, every report/story/rumor I hear is that they'd ask for our 4 top prospects, 3 of which are: Luciano, Harrison and Bednar.
Already toooooo expensive for my taste.
And here's the thing Farhan MUST keep in mind:
1-Within a year, maybe sooner we need a SS
2-Within a year, maybe sooner we need a 1B
3-Within a year, maybe sooner we need a 3B
That's 3 huge holes to fill! Now admittedly, it LOOKS like Villar can and will handle the 3B job.
But losing Luciano is unacceptable at almost any price. Crawford, as I've been saying since February, is mostly done. And with his knee acting up all year, IMHO, all the more so.
4-I'm still not sold on Junis. Not by a long shot.
5-Our bullpen, IMHO, is close to a mess after Leone and Camilo.
We have too many holes to fill coming up to spend so many minor league chips on 1 player.

Totally agree, Luciano is untouchable IMO.

It might be more prudent to wait till he hits free agency. If still productive in two years, then offer the contract. All the prospects for a couple years of team control? No.

Well, we all agree. Let's hope management is listening, or reads this board😇🤑🤪

I’m worried that the team is overly concerned with getting star power because attendance is down this year. It’s easier to get someone else’s star than grow your own but they need to use the pipeline.

Ballparks are currently super spreader situations and being in a couple of risk groups keeps me away. It’s not lack of stars on the team. Crappy play, Covid risk and dirty downtown keep me away.

Don't forget inflation and gas prices, I think a lot of people are tightening their belts.
I'm also curious if Kapler's anti-national anthem stance has driven some away. That's probably a stretch in the Bay Area, but I'm sure some have written off the Giants because of it. I think it's bad for business to show your stance on certain topics if it will alienate you to part of your fan base.
Like Michael Jordan for example, when asked why he doesn't open up more about social justice issues, he replied "Republicans buy sneakers too."

Kapler is inconsequential because everyone I know who goes to games still goes but not as often. Parking is much harder because a primary parking lot was taken up by the new Mission Rock project. Areas around downtown and near ballpark look pretty seedy so those and Covid are the main deterrents. Also, up until mid-June, people were watching the Warriors instead.
