It's going to be interesting to watch and see what they do with joey.
In the first couple of games I thought he was handling the pitches thrown to him quite well, but ever since game 4 or 5, at least to my eye, he looks very much over matched.
They keep pointing out all the swing and Miss on pitches that are hittable, and if you're the giant brain trust, that's got to be alarming!
Problem is, I don't think they have any other choice but to keep him and hope he gets it straightened out.
And defensively, they keep talking about his strong arm, but all I see is an arm that isn't accurate.
I can't think of a throw that he's made that hasn't run off the second base bag towards right field.
And I can't help but think that the Giants might be making a move to acquire a catcher, and send him back down the triple a till he gets his head on straight, because Kurt casali cannot be the everyday guy.

Now you are seeing what Krukow saw last year when he watched the Rivercats games. When they said he wasn't ready, it wasn't the Bay Area media ganging up on Bart especially since they could have used Bart in September of last season. Cueto was the one who got the most publicity complaining about Bart in 2020 but there were probably three or four others that haven't been mentioned. They have an option at the lower levels in Brett Auerbach who they feel is a solid catcher and is capable of playing 2B. Problem is that Auerbach and no other catchers are on the 40 man so they will have to make a corresponding move to add another catcher if they decide to make a move. As such, they might give Bart a longer leash unless he proves himself totally incapable. Even though they drafted Patrick Bailey after they drafted Bart, I'm hearing that Bailey also is having difficulty learning the position. It takes several years to learn to be a big league catcher and because of COVID, Bart and Bailey were set back.
We have to give credit to Posey for learning the position so well so quickly and the magnitude of his retirement seems to get bigger.

Genoves in AAA is probably the next man up if Bart falters. He is a good catcher but cannot hit. Again, they would have to make a corresponding move because he is not on the 40 man. Acquiring a catcher at this stage from outside the organization does not really represent that much of an improvement.

I too am extremely disappointed with Bart but I think its way to early to throw in the towel.. Team is playing well, pitchers apparently like throwing to him and with bis pedigree he deserves longer rope.. If you take a look how he fared in the minors, he also had a tendency to start slow.. Easy boys.. He will come around

Nice to hear from you, holiday!
My post was not to say I was giving up on Joey bart, just to point out that the giant Brain trust must be wondering what's going on with his bat.
He's done a nice job handling the pictures, but his throwing mechanics are not very good, and I have yet to see one of his throws the second base that does not drift to the right side of the bag.
Still too early to make any kind of a decision, I was just pointing out some things that might be going on in the background.
Sure hope we see you posting more often, Mordy!

The way Zaidi uses each space on the 40 man roster, I would be surprised if he makes a move with Bart this soon. Usually this kind of move would require a trial of about a hundred ABs.
Nice to hear from you, Holiday.

Which is why I was speculating. I noticed that Kurt casale is catching tonight, and not Joey.
Recently it's been every other day for the catchers.
That alone leads me to believe that something is going on

They realize Bart isn't ready to take over starting catcher duties...which is why I wish they would have eased him into that role last year with Buster catching most of the time. As I recall you didn't want that, Boly. We're now seeing the growing pains Bart is going through by not being groomed with Buster as his mentor last season. It's very hard for a rookie catcher to adjust to being the starter and stay confident with the bat at the same time.

You are right, I didn't want him brought up last year, and I still stand behind that opinion.
I keep hoping Joey Bart will emerge, but my fear now is one that Mike krukow sort of expressed; that Joey Bart won't ever be the major league catcher everyone thought he could be.
It is still way too early to make any determinations, and patience is what is required by the giant brain trust and the fans, but until he starts to turn things around a little bit, it's going to be difficult watching.

Actually, before the season started, Krukow said that Bart was ready. I'm not sure if he said that because he was told to say it but he felt that he was starting to take charge and corrected a lot of the things he needed to. He's still short of the 100ABs one would need to make any drastic determination so let's see how it plays out.

I agree, Reed. I believe the hitting will come in due time. I think he's doing very well behind the plate other than stopping the running game, that too will come.

I agree, Reed. I believe the hitting will come in due time. I think he's doing very well behind the plate other than stopping the running game, that too will come. One of the reasons why they kept Caseli this season was that they felt that he could mentor Bart's defense. We probably should not focus too much on Bart's lack of hitting. Almost the whole team is in a bit of a funk right now, especially Ruf, Crawford, Slater, Dubon. Ruf's .145 BA is alarming, he might be exposed by having to play every day.

Krukoow said we need to be patient with Bart. He's starting to get his hits and when he makes contact, it is loud contact.

The reason why they are holding Buster Posey day so early is to allow their family time to move back to Georgia. He did say on KNBR yesterday that he would be interested in working with the Giants in the future but I think for the immediate future, probably not.

It's very hard for a rookie catcher to adjust to being the starter and stay confident with the bat at the same time. I was listening to Marty Lurie's pregame show (pre Buster Posey Day tributes) and there was a sound clip from Joey Bart. From what Bart said, Buster did sit down with Bart and gave him a lot of tips and they became good friends. I think Buster was able to pass along whatever information he needed to pass on to Bart. That said, it's probably a harder transition if both guys are not there at the same time in real time.

Just my uneducated guess, but based upon our on the field management, I would say no, he is not I now think Bart is messed up to the point where he is not even making contact. He is now not even fouling off pitches. Yesterday, there was a bases loaded situation when they were ahead by a lot and they needed a fly ball to extend the lead. The Giants did not trust Bart and used Joc instead. Joc gave thema sac fly but it shows that Bart was not even trusted in a situation that he had a better than average chance to succeed.

THAT was a very telling move, and it wasn't lost on me, either.
For ME, the at bat that summed it up was when he swung through a fast ball right down the heart of the plate.
That simply cannot happen.
Foul it off, okay, but totally miss it? A major leaguer not even getting a piece of the ball?
Unacceptable.
IMHO, he's way over matched right now, and though I LOVE his power upside, if he can't hit the ball, it makes no difference what that "upside" is.

FOr that bases loaded situation, I probably would have opted to have Bart hit. It was a really good low risk situation tht would have given him confidence if he came through and if he didn't no loss.

Fans are behind Bart for now but I'm not sure how much longer they will remain patient. Bart can be hidden when the lineup is longer. Krukow said this morning that the biggest trade deadline acquisition this season might be for a productive catcher.

It's plain to see that he's over matched right now.
We all see that.
For me, the kicker was the other day what I posted above: a ball right down the middle of the plate and his bat missed it by plenty

Even the best hitters in baseball miss a fat pitch down the middle occasionally. It's the lack of any consistency at the plate that's hurting Bart, not one pitch he swung through.

You misunderstood, boagie.
Every hitter misses pictures down the plate occasionally.
What I said, in a different way,was that that moment was the absolute epitome of his problems were that one pitch down the middle.
For me it summed up everything that he's struggling with, that's all.
