I am posting this both because it's kind of funny, because it has something of a happy ending, and because I believe there is a lesson to be learned.
Does Four Seasons Landscaping ring a bell? It's the company in Philly where Rudy Giuliani held a big press conference in which he tried to show the presidential election had been stolen. No one has been able to do that, but you can't blame Rudy for trying, right? Well, maybe you can.
But on this particular day he put together a press conference in which he was going to provide the needed evidence. And he held it at the Four Seasons. What a great hotel, right? Made a lot of sense. Except that when reporters showed up at the Four Seasons Hotel, in the heart of Centre City, as they advertise, Rudy wasn't there.
Somehow, his people had set up the big press conference at the Four Seasons -- but at Four Seasons Landscaping. It WASN'T located "in the heart of Centre City." In fact, I believe it was located across the street from a strip club. After all, it was a LANDSCAPING company, not a hotel. Apparently someone had made a big mistake, and it was too late to change the location.
Now we get to two sad parts of the story. First of all, Rudy embarrassed the heck out of himself, since he couldn't provide the necessary evidence. But at least his hair dye didn't run. And it wasn't the first time he had been embarrassed.
Secondly, and this is sad, outraged Democrats did a horrible thing and left threatening voice messages on the voice machine at Four Seasons Landscaping. I had already long been saying to people like Matt and Boly that we needed to bring the parties TOGETHER, and this was yet another example of people trying to tear the parties apart. Of course, so was the press conference in the first place, but that didn't justify the sad reactions of some Democrats.
But at least some Democrats (and many Republicans too IMO) have senses of humor. The Four Seasons Landscaping people called people back where they could, and found some of them did indeed have a sense of humor. They wound up making friends and ... selling over $1.5 million of T-shirts and other merchandise. Keep in mind, they're a landscaping company and had never sold merchandise before. But they turned a negative into a positive and made a lot of money doing it.
For Matt and Boly in particular, getting the parties together is still one of the most important things we can do. It certainly worked out well for Four Seasons Landscaping. They became famous because of Rudy Giuliani, but they became rich because of more reasonable people. And because while some of those people started out on the very wrong track with their horrible comments and even threats, they eventually showed a sense of humor and helped bring people together.
Good for Four Seasons Landscaping!
