Think about the GM's we have in the Bay Area.
It's hard to imagine a GM being better than Farhan, but if there is one, it would be Bob Myers of the Warriors. I am amazed how well the three guys the Warriors picked up on minimum contracts this past summer have worked into the team. Andre Igoudala had been a key part of the championship teams, but Otto(Matic) Porter and Nmenja Bjelica are players who came in for the minimum and fit beautifully. And Gary Payton II as the 15th man has been so good that he's probably in the top seven right now. Tremendous story on You Tube about how Gary developed himself so that he could finally find a permanent home in the NBA at age of 29. Myers' high school sweetheart is the daughter and granddaughter of close friends of my family. When we moved to California nearly 61 years ago, we moved to Alamo because of the girls' grandparents, who were building a house in Alamo. She and Bob were high school sweethearts only though.
Doug Wilson, out on medical leave right now -- let's pray he's OK -- has done a very nice job over the years for the Sharks, who have never won the Stanley Cup but have been consistent playoff participants. And while I'm not quite as sure about John Lynch of the 49ers, I really like him too. He's made some poor choices, but I believe he's got what it takes.
And of course David Forst of the A's was hand-picked by Billy Beane, who also was the first teacher of Farhan. Farhan is like Moneyball with a chemistry degree and money!
Man, is there as much GM talent anywhere else in the universe?
