Donald Trump has called the media "fake news" but that seems mostly to lead us away from the actual "fake news" Donald and his followers often give us. Each week we see a list of the false things we have been told, and most of them (not all, but a significant majority) come from the far right.
Today it's Hannity, Donald's unofficial advisor, who said that before COVID, the US didn't import "a drop of oil" under Donald. Here is what PolitiFact said:
"In 2019, the last year before the pandemic, the U.S. imported about 500,000 barrels of crude oil from Saudi Arabia per day, and over 182 million barrels in total, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Imports also came from other countries in the Middle East.
In 2017 and 2018, Trump’s first two years as president, the U.S. imported about 949,000 and 870,000 barrels of crude oil per day, respectively. In 2020, when demand crashed in the middle of the year because of the pandemic, the number was down to about 498,000 barrels per day."
Why in the world wouldn't Hannity be honest about what was a true Trump accomplishment, in that Donald DID reduce our imports from close to a million barrels per day in 2017 and 2018 to have a million per day in 2019? How foolish is it to diminish a true accomplishment by grossly exaggerating it?
We need honesty. We need empathy. We need integrity.
How could one man lose by nearly 10 million votes to Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. Hillary isn't a whole lot better than Donald, which is why I voted for "Anyone Else." I think when all is said and done, Biden has a chance to be known as a good president, since what we most need is coming together, and that is a strength of Joe. But that's not guaranteed, especially given how bad the divide is. And I don't think when Donald ran against Joe, many thought of Joe as a great leader. That Biden beat Trump by over 7 million votes shows us just how bad a job Donald did. We're now over 800,000 lives lost to COVID, and we'll likely be over a million before the middle of next year. Meanwhile, South Korea is around 3000, and China -- where it all began -- is around 5000. That's a lot of deaths that could have been prevented.
Both those countries have fared a lot better economically then we, as well. Our mishandling of COVID has cost us lives, jobs, dollars and a lot of fear and frustration.
Meanwhile, I'm just trying to keep putting facts out there. There have been just WAY too many lies the past five or six years.
