The Mets are expected to name former Angels GM Billy Eppler as their new GM. It is probably a sign of how the game has changed that the Mets didn't choose Brian Sabean despite Brian's desire to return to the game.

Supposedly, Sabean himself reached out to the Mets, not the other way around

Exactly. I probably appreciate Brian a little less than others here do (not that I think he was bad or anything), but I was rooting for him to achieve his dream of returning to the bigs.

The Mets are very good at making bad decisions. This is one of them.

This is an analytics guy who was just fired by the Angels. Perfect fit.

The Angels have been a bad to mediocre team for a while now, despite having the two best players in baseball.

I can't remember who it is, but there was a guy Mark wanted the Mets to hire the last time they chose a GM. I'll bet that would still have been a good choice.

Mark liked Bloom for the Giants but I think Zaidi has exceeded expectations.

I totally agree! In fact, I would say they exceeded expectations * 5!

Let's be honest, Boly. Mr. Zaidi exceeded your expectations by 500 times. You expected him to fail. How could he, when he hadn't played baseball beyond high school. But it wasn't your judgment that was worse. It was that your reason for not liking Mr. Zaidi had nothing to do with baseball. Your reason for not liking Mr. Zaidi wasn't a valid reason for not liking ANYONE for virtually any position.
And, Reeder, the name Bloom (Chaim or something like that?) did come to my mind, but I wasn't sure that was whom Mark had mentioned. Thanks for confirming it.
By the way, I loved the hiring of Mr. Zaidi because he had a sterling reputation with both the A's and the Dodgers, he was smart enough to perhaps have become one of the world's top economists had he pursued his education, and when I asked my son who lives in LA what the Dodgers fans thought about the Giants' signing Mr. Zaidi, he told me that they hated it. I figure that if the Dodgers fans hate something the Giants did, it's probably a good thing for the Giants.
I used facts and logic to form my judgment of Mr. Zaidi. Boly used, well I promised not to say, and I'm not going to break that promise.
Incidentally, there was no guarantee I would be right about Mr. Zaidi. But when one uses facts and logic, he gives himself the best chance possible.

Joe Espada is one of the candidates for the Mets managerial position even though he interviewed with Eppler for the Angels job and didn't get it. Espada, as you might remember, was one of the leading candidates to be Giants manager. He also interviewed for the Rangers and Cubs. Maybe its the possible connection to the Astros cheating scandal but he is at least 0 for 4. I'm not sure if the Mets want to deal with that again after parting ways with Beltran. If its the perenially dysfunctional Mets, you can expect them to pick the worst possible candidate.
