If he can stay healthy, 28-year-old Eduardo Rodriguez (5/$77-$80 million) could be a very nice signing for the Tigers. Rodriguez posted only a 4.74 ERA last season, but he may have been the unluckiest pitcher in the majors. I would have gulped had the Giants signed him at that figure, but I would have been willing to take the risk.
That said, in Mr. Zaidi we trust.

MLBTR believes that of the three starters the Giants could re-sign, Kevin Gausman is the most likely (and the most important).

Because he had an ERA close to 5, the fans are definitely not excited in Detroit. However, Detroit has a lot of young talent and they may be going after some free agents to fill around that talent. I heard they are speaking with the agents of Corey Seagar and Chris Taylor. Rangers are also in on Seagar so there might be a bit of a bidding war there.

The big concern about Rodriguez is that he got a serious illness as a result of catching COVID. Myocarditis IIRC, although that might not be it. But the point is that it was quite serious. If that were to return, it might be life threatening, let alone career threating. But one can rest assured that the Tigers medical staff checked the situation out closely.

The weird thing is that when a team isn't very good, it is tougher for a player to make that much difference. The ideal situation in which to acquire a player is the traditional "one player away" situation. IF the one player is likely to propel you to the playoffs, he's figuratively worth his weight in gold. If he is likely to propel you to the World Series, he's worth his weight in platinum. But if he's going to take you from 70 wins to 75 wins, what's the difference, as tough as it is to find a five-win player?

Detroit might be going to make a move. That's why they've been linked with Seagar and Taylor.

Apparently that is what the Tigers believe. When COVID is involved, I worry about long-term effects.
