In a perfect world, DesClafani does what he's never been able to do vs LA, and pitch well tonight.
In a perfect world, we win tonight and get to hold back Webb for the opening of the next series, be it Atlanta or Milwaukee
In a perfect world, we win the next series in 5 games.
In a perfect world, we get to play Boston is the World series.
Why? Because THEY weren't supposed to be there either!
In a perfect world...

Last one was decent, but before that? Many many starts with the Reds and us, and none very good.
My fingers are crossed, that's for sure.

It's only the fourth inning but so much for a perfect world.
Anthony desclafani stunk, Castro stunk, and once again Garcia pinching his butt cheeks tightly together to keep in the pea oh, pretty much sealed Our Fate.
Can we come back? Sure, against the Dodger bullpen and the way Walker Buehler is throwing today? Highly unlikely.
A game fire is what I was desperately hoping to avoid.

I think we all knew it would go five.

True, we all knew it... but were hoping for yet one more miracle.
It just wasn't a good match up from the start.
Buehler had his jaw locked and the stuff to match his determination.
DesClafani...I have no idea what his problem is against LA, but last night, command was one of them.
I don't know what his issues are, and frankly, I don't care.
he's a major league pitcher and a pretty good one at that. I accept no excuses for still another terrible performance vs LA

Anthony didn't fare at all well, and except for the start that Reed cited, he stunk pretty much all season against the Dodgers, but Boly was incorrect when he said that Anthony had NEVER pitched well against LA, and I was surprised that after Reed cited the exception, Boly didn't acknowledge that he should have said "rarely" instead of "never." Anthony was pretty darn good in that one, allowing only two hits, although in a precursor to his control issues in game 4, he walked three.
Remember, when we use an absolute, we're usually wrong.
By the way, when a pitcher pitches poorly, no matter how important the game, we don't have to accept excuses. Even the greatest pitchers stink on occasion. If that's the last game Anthony pitches for the Giants though, it would be a shame he ended his Giants career that way. But as Boly said, it was highly predictable. As Reed showed, it wasn't a certainty, but the odds weren't in Anthony's favor, and he didn't defy them as he had on September 3rd, which would have been my parents' anniversary if they were still living.
