When I saw that Kapler was bringing in Rogers, whom I love in the set up role, I knew, JUST KNEW that was a mistake.
Rogers is outstanding vs LHB, but NOT so vs RHB.
From the first batter of the inning you could see that it was going to blow up in Gabe's face, and it did.
I would have gone with Watson, not Rogers there, and I hope Kapler learned his lesson.
When they sent up Solano, I thought it was over.
He was the LAST guy, outside of a pitcher, I wanted up in that situation against Will Smith.
Out for over 2 weeks, week coming off Covid with a tough closer on the mound.
So when he hit that shot into the LF seats, I was flat out stunned!
I didn't see that coming, but I'm sure glad it did.
A PH home run from one of the most unlikely sources... and we sure needed it!
Kapler needs to learn from last night, and IF he needs a RHP to close vs RHB, bring on Leone, NOT Tyler.
Just my opinion

You can say what you will about Solano's defense, Boly, but with the bat he's pretty clutch. He's definitely not the unlikeliest guy to come up big in a situation like that.

Donovan Solano was never the question. My point about Solano a Shabby defense.
I am going to disagree with you about Donovan Solano being likely to get hit in that situation.
He missed two weeks of baseball and had a very brief rehab assignment.
His timing is going to be off the strike zone is going to be off and he's facing a guy with a really tough back foot slider.
That's my statement, unlikely guy to do what he did.
Then again Kevin gausman hitting a Fly ball to right field that drives in a run is even more unlikely! :-)

Missing the two weeks, I agree, not likely he come off the bench and hit a homerun in his first at-bat back. But when healthy, Solano is one of our better clutch hitters. This season Wade jr. is obviously at the top of that list. Despite Solano's lack of walks, he probably has the best bat control of anyone. Solano reminds me a lot of Juan Uribe, not very good with the glove, but when it seems like nobody else can get the big hit he comes through at the perfect time.
