When this season is over oh, and we finished second, and get eliminated in the Wild Card round, it is my opinion that the blame will rest solely on the shoulders of Farhan zaidi
His inability to get a picture is going to cost us
I mean seriously, consider; look who the Dodgers picked up Max Scherzer and Trey Turner.
Look at the Players the Braves picked up starting with Joc Pederson!
Other teams in contention made deals and the Dodgers included, and it basically cost all of these teams nothing.
I simply cannot believe with all of those other teams hardly paying anything for what they came up with, and we couldn't come up with anything other than Kris Bryant
Farhaan has done a lot of good things for us but he blew it big-time at the trading deadline. That's my opinion

Farhan's primary goal is to make the Giants successful for many years, not just this season, Boly. Maybe the teams with pitchers were asking for a little too much in return, which would hinder our success in the future. I think if a deal made sense Farhan would have added a pitcher as well. And it's worth noting that adding a pitcher would have taken starts away from Webb when Cueto and Wood were both healthy.

I totally get that, and I agree. But that's not my point.
my point is if the Dodgers, and the Braves, could make deals for such big time players how come we couldn't?
I am simply not buying the argument from farhan that teams are asking too much. If teams are asking too much how did the Dodgers come up with Max Scherzer and Trea Turner?
How did the Braves come up with Joc Pederson?
I have no way to prove it, but I believe it was a deal there to be had. Perkins it could not have been standing Pat thinking Johnny Cueto is going to be the answer to our starter situation

Boly calm down.. Farhan has shown his prowess when it comes to trades.. Im sure teams were trying to make him pay up and he refused to.. I too would have loved a bonafide pitcher but I guess the asking price was too much or else he would have pulled the trigger.. In Farhan I trust.. No reason to second guess him

I am calm, and I'm sorry that my post maybe look like I wasn't.
I to trust in Farhan zaidi oh, but I think he blew it in this one.
If the Dodgers came up with Max Scherzer, we could have come up with Max Scherzer. And I see nothing that they paid for him that we couldn't have matched

If they had asked for Bart, Luciano, Ramos, Bailey it's a non starter. We don't know what transpired but I think that's probably what happened.

I don't know why the Dodgers were able to get off so cheap unless Boras had stuck his nose into it.

But that brings me back to my point: how in the world could LA get BOTH players for the little bit they paid?
If they got the guys for the crap they handed over, we could have done the same thing with lower minor leagueres.
Remember going into the trading period HE SAID pitching was the priority.
So what in the heck happened, Farhan?
Again I say, even though I'm not privy to the details, Farhan really blew this one.

The Dodgers gave up more than crap..they gave up Ruiz, and Gray who are both top prospects. I believe Ruiz is rated higher than Bart. The Dodgers gave up quite a bit, it may be worth it for the Dodgers getting Turner in the deal, but not for Scherzer. I would have been upset if the Giants gave up anything substantial for Scherzer.

Keibert Ruiz isn’t exactly chopped Caselli. I heard he might be better than Smith and Bart.

Keibert Ruiz isn’t exactly chopped Caselli. I heard he might be better than Smith and Bart. I'll bow to your knowledge, but what I read when the trade first occurred was very different than what you're reporting.
But as I have said before; I don't follow the minor leagues at all and I'll bow to your guy's knowledge

Boagie is 100% correct. Keibert Ruiz and Josiah Gray were a lot to give up for Max and Turner. I don’t blame them for doing it, but they put themselves in the position that if they don’t win the World Series it was an awful trade. And I seriously doubt they’ll keep and pay two elite shortstops so they’ll probably let Seager walk and this means this trade cost them two elite prospects and an all star player. And although the Giants didn’t get that pitcher they needed, they got arguably the best player out there in Kris Bryant. And you’re talking about Joc Pederson like he’s good, Boly. Better look at his numbers again, Boly! He’s Alex Dickerson!

They might keep Seager as the DH, he's average defensively, and he's injury prone, his power is the only thing that stands out. Turner on the other hand is a 5 tool player. They definitely got an upgrade at shortstop with Turner when they made the trade, but did they hurt their future by giving up Ruiz and Gray? Probably. I think they're happy with Will Smith behind the plate so I guess they felt Ruiz was expendable.

In fact, in the off season, there were rumors of him coming to us...to which I said, "Oh-myGodNO!"
My only point was that other teams made a lot of deals and we made only 1.
I do Like Bryant, in fact, I was lobbying for him on the board.
But Farhan SAID he wanted starting pitching...and there is a large part of me that wants to hold him to that.
Of course in making that statement, I TOTALLY understand what he "wanted" was never a promise.

Bryant strikes out WAYYYYY too much for my liking...If you are gonna pay top dollar for a player, you better be able to put the bat to ball alot more often...Not to mention those awful throws he's been making to 1st base when he has all the time in the world..He is def a top bat with plus speed and above avg defense at 3rd and is versatile as heck but man, those swing and misses scare the hell out of me

His strikeouts infuriate me, especially because so many of them come on pitches not that close to the strike zone.
I pointed out last week how he does his best 1986 Matt Williams impression, continually fishing for sliders down and away that aren't close.
And don't even get me started on his defense!
There is NO excuse, NONE, for his continual wide throws from 3B.
But note... those almost always come when he has too much time to 'think' about his throw.
For crying out loud, coaches! Teach him what Brooks Robinson preached: Don't think, set your feet and throw the ball quickly and hard!

I mentioned before that the coaching army may be less likely to tinker with Bryant. Doing it the way he has been doing it has won him a World Championship, and MVP, and is a superstar. The coaches will probably give him a longer leash than with the in house players. It probably will take some time for him to build a relationship and buy in to the coaching staff as it did for the other players. I estimated that it took guys like Belt and Crawford about half a year to start making adjustments with our coaches and it will take at least that long with Bryant. The way he plays reminds me a lot of the way Longoria played last season.

Bryant is playing through a couple of injuries and he's probably playing at about 70% right now. He now has injuries to hand, wrist, and side and it seems the last two are bothering him the most. At this moment, we are likely not seeing the best version of Bryant. I'm not sold on him, either but the jury is still out.

That is a very good point! A very good point!!!
Depending upon how badly he hurt his wrist, that could be one reason we're not seeing good stuff out of Bryant, but what you are suggesting is that his side isn't fully healed either.
I know Cub fans want to see him play, and the Giants are kind of obligated to play him, but he shouldn't be out there if that wrist is a problem, or if that site is still a problem.

Bill Plaschke of the Times thinks that the Scherzer trade is only the beginning of the fallout from the Bauer deal. Ever since Bauer has been put on administrative leave, he has still been paid by the Dodgers and it created the need for Scherzer. If Bauer had still been on the roster, they wouldn't have had to trade away the two prospects. Also, they may not be able to void the Bauer contract and they have a number of 2022 free agents. They will probably lock up Clayton K as a lifelong Dodger but $100 million tied up in Bauer might not be able to re-sign everyone they would like to. Seager, Jansen, Pollack, Taylor, and Scherzer are the other potential FA and Trey Turner next year. Not only is Bauer a potential $80+ million mistake but it shows the organization did not do its due diligence. Plaschke calls out Mark Walter because the Bauer deal was so large that it had to be signed off by someone higher up.

I can't really blame the Dodgers for signing Bauer, a lot of teams were interested, he is a very good pitcher afterall. What I can blame the Dodgers for is consistently being on the wrong side of the PR and the lack of discipline after their numerous controversies surfaced. Including the one Kapler was a part of. Their leadership in the front office is downright pathetic.

The LA sports teams, fanbases, media, etc are all about arrogance. I'm not sure why this is but it seems like they are all part of a big gang. My niece, who grew up in the LA area, thinks this arrogance is part of the LA culture as it extends to the Lakers, Rams, and college teams.

Very true, Reed. New York is the same, if not worse. I just read an article today by a New York columnist claiming that baseball is dying because the Yankees and Mets might not make the post-season.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if in New York that the Mets are even considered unless they are winning. One year, I visited NY wearing my NY Giants cap and some idiot was ragging on me for being a Mets fan.
I think LA is worse because it is all about obtaining and adulation of star players, no matter how it affects their franchises. I've been to Laker, Dodger, and Angels games over the years and I've noticed that fans in the stands really barely watch the games. Before LeBron came to LA, an accident attorney put up dozens of billboards around the city begging for LeBron to come to the "city of Champions". They got their COVID championships but no parades. It's almost like they count the championships but have little knowledge of the games.

I think there's a bit of that in New York as well..especially with the Yankees who always seem to land the big fish. But I agree with you, from my experience, most Yankees and Mets fans are more knowledgeable than Dodgers fans.
