With no rehab assignment, I went into last night's game totally expecting the Mets to light up Cueto.
I expected location problems, a lot of 3-2 counts, and hard hit balls.
I am very pleased to say that I was impressed with his command.
I didn't see that coming... and if not for that ridiculous throw by Bryant, he likely comes out with a win.
I am absolutely intolerant of a 3B man who has time and makes a bad throw.
To me, that is inexcusable.
Even when I was still playing, I always remembered advice from Brooks Robinson. He said, when a third baseman has a lot of time... don't slow things down and goose a throw over to first, get set up quickly and fire it over there like it was going to be a close play.
Brooks claimed that bad throws came because the player started thinking in lieu of reacting.
We've all watched Flores do the same thing that Bryant did last night.
Bottom line: stop thinking and just react. Set your feet quickly and make your normal strong throw to 1B.

I was rather impressed with Cueto last night too..it seems like someone told him to drop the stupid shimmy nonsense. He actually pitched last night, and dropped the circus act.

Sure made a difference.
Wonder why he didn't...

Kapler mentioned that in the past, he might have taken Cueto out before facing Alonso but he says has now learned to listen to his veterans. Cueto did induce the grounder but Bryant threw it away.
