Just when you thought this season couldn't get any more strange, they pull off a victory literally when none was there to be had.

Though I am glad we won, 3 and 2/3 of an inning by Kevin gausman just isn't getting it done.
This is now too many starts in a row a very poor performances.
Somehow, someway, our starters have to learn how to pitch deep into games.
The inability to do so is going to catch up with this team. And it will be the death of us.
That's good, and consistent as our offense has been, against the really good teams, with a really good pitching staff, this isn't going to happen very often.
And if things don't change, and change soon, well you see where I'm going with this.

Maybe the anomoly isn't Gausman's second half but his first half. He admitted that the league has figured him out. We should be real careful about what kind of contract he might get and he is losing earnng power with every start.

We should be real careful about what kind of contract he might get and he is losing earnng power with every start. As I said to a friend of mine, Reed, Gausman is reminding me of Brett Tomko when we had him.
He was consistently getting hit hard early in games and absolutely refused...refused to throw anything by his fastball.
When asked why he said he needed to establish that pitch...and I remember thinking? What? What the heck is wrong with you!
If it's not working do something differently, you clod!
He was stubborn. No other way to put it. He was going to do it his way, and that's all there was to it.
Gausman is being equally stubborn in my opinion.
He has other pitches... but he won't throw them!
If his split is not working, throw the curve ball more, the slider more...the change up more...
But no. He won't do that.
He got to the show because of all of his stuff, not the splitter.
Until he gets that feel back, adjust!
Adjust!
It ain't (bad grammar intended) that complicated!

I don't think Tomko was stubborn, he just sucked. None of his pitches were plus pitches, even his fastball was below average. Gausman however has a good splitter and slider, he just can't seem to locate them consistently since the All-Star break. I think they should put him on the IL and work with him until he figures it out.

I read the same thing about Wood earlier in the year, but he, reluctantly the article said, conceded and made some changes.
Here's some quotes: Spahn On Who's Dumber – Pitchers Or Hitters? Ted Williams: “Pitchers are the dumbest people in the world.”
A friend of mine just sent me this quote from Ted Williams: I'll try to get it right:
"The only thing dumber than a pitcher is two pitchers."
I would be in favor of the DL for KG... but we have no one, nadie(no body), to even fill in while he's gone.

A great example of stubborn is Curt Schilling and not accepting that he couldn't blow a fastball past Bonds. Time and time again Bonds would take him deep. Schilling to this day probably believes he can sneak a fastball past Bonds.

Probably the same reason for the success of Goldschmidt, Muncy, Myers, etc over the years.
