Gabe Gabe kapler made a bad situation even worse, by pulling Sammy long at the end of the second inning.
I do not understand why he did that.
It is my opinion, that what he did was foolish over managing.
And he did all sorts of over managing when he was in Philadelphia.
Knowing he had a tired Bullpen, he needed a minimum of four Innings out of Sammy long, but he's quickly eliminated that possibility, and, in so doing, has put the team in a hole for at least the next three games.
Zack Littell is gone for at least 3 days, Jarlin Garcia will not be available tomorrow after pitching 2 innings innings tonight, and in addition, needed two more pitchers.
It is my opinion, that when a manager over manages like Gabe kapler did tonight, that can cripple a team for the next week to 10 days.
We have all seen it happen before, so if are five game lead over the Dodgers and our 9 game lead over the Padres suddenly shrinks to one game and five games, this will be the reason why.
Foolish foolish decision

Agree 1000%.. Innings should have been the criteria and not to try to het another run that early in the game.. Longs stuff looked good and I was hoping he could go 5.. Just a dumbass decision by Kapler although in general ive been pretty happy with his overall managing this season

In general, I think Kapler's decision making has been pretty solid.
Of course there will always be situations in which fans will disagree with any manager.
Lord knows, Bochy frequently drove me up the freaking wall with some of the stuff he did... but in terms of Giant's managers, I'd rate Bochy as one of the best.
For me a manager does not have to win World Series titles to be considered the best.
If the talent is not there, even the best manager can't make them win.
My personal choice for best Giant's manager is Roger Craig.
He did more with less than I've ever seen of a Giant manager.
I place Bochy a close, close second.
But back to Kapler.
Until last night, I have rarely seen him make a "Philadelphia" move like that.
That's why I called what he did "over managing."
Now, he's hamstrung the team.
We'll see how it turns out, but we can't continually have starters going 5 innings. We just can't.

Also, if I were Sam Long, I would think that the manager does not trust me. The situation was two on with two out in the bottom of the 2nd when he brought in Dickerson. Way too early, especially as the game was tied 1-1 at that point and Long was at 44 pitches. Kapler could have easily gotten two more innings out of Long and in the second inning, it is simply not a high leverage situaton. If it works, Kapler is a genius but if it fails, the team goes into the tank. With Dickerson, we are looking at a 70% chance of failure.

Wood really came up big for us yesterday. If the bullpen was not gassed, I was thinking they would have pulled him after the 5th inning but he managed to get them into the 7th. The bullpen should have a chance to reset with the night game following the Sunday day game.

Since the early months of the season I have not been that impressed with Wood.
If you want a 5 inning guy as your # 4 starter, I'm okay with that.
But if we re sign him, I wouldn't give him the money he thinks he's worth.
