IMHO, game one, and then last night's game was a classic example of a team getting outside of what it does best, and pressing.
We might not have been scoring a lot of runs, but for the most part, what we were NOT doing is/was chasing pitches out of the hitting zone.
Other than 3 dramatic back foot sliders to Langoria last night, Flores, Posey, Longoria, La Stella, and just about every other hitter, iMHO, was pressing; trying to do too much to win.
So many pitches chased that were not hittable.
Hey, I hold no illusions about this club regardless of how well we've played, but what happened in games 1 and 2 simply cannot continue.
Either you know what pitch you can hit and drive, or you don't.
And last night was a classic example that tells me they don't.
At least for the first 2 games of this series.
We've done well missing Yaz and Cueto, but the hitters simply MUST approach each at bat smarter than they have in the first 2 games.
And I don't know WHAT La Stella's problem is, but tongue-in-cheek, his terrible at bat after terrible at bats are contagious.

I don't miss Cueto. In 2016 Cueto was really good, outside of that he's pretty much the worst free agent signing the Giants ever made. Add that to the fact that he threw tantrums when Bart was catching him, he clearly doesn't understand his place on this team. Bart is the future, Cueto is not..he needs to realize that. And if communication with the catcher is the issue, maybe he should have tried learning english over the last decade plus he's been living and getting paid an exorbitant salary in this country.
If I were Zaidi I'd just release Cueto, it's quite clear we're better off without him.

I don’t like the comment about Cueto learning English, maybe Bart should learn Spanish? The rest of what you say is correct, although the problem is overrated. So many pitchers have personal catchers, so if Joey ever becomes the starting catcher, Cueto can thrown to the backup. It’s not a problem, because as we all know, catchers need many games off because of the rigors of the position. If the backup is a .180 hitting defensive specialist, then that becomes Johnny’s loss, because it’s one less bat in the lineup for him. Cueto was pitching well before the injury, but fortunately Logan Webb has returned to spring training form in his last two starts so his loss hasn’t been felt as much. Nice comeback yesterday, led by Gausman and Tauchman, a sweep here would have been disastrous. Let’s hope the trip to Coors isn’t the usual nightmare, as this is the worst Rockies team we’ve seen in awhile.

I actually think we played the Pads tough his series..so far we are 3-3 against a tough division rivals and we were very shorthanded while at it..I still love this team outside of the pen..IN as much as I love Doval and Santos, it was too much to expect immediate success out of A ball..The other pitchers are/were junk pickups over the off season..It's the only area where I say Farhan came up short..Watson could have been resigned for a song yet we chose garbage instead..Perhaps Watson didnt want to resign with the Giants , but if he did and we took a pass, that was a big no no...I have full confidence that Farhan will pull a rabbit out of his hat though IF we stay close...But to tell you the truth, if we don't shore up our pen now, I don't know how much longer we can compete..The starters are doing an amazing job but id expect that won;t last ....Thoughts?

If an American plays in Japan or Korea, they are EXPECTED to learn the language, not the other way around.
I was more distressed to have learned, because I hadn't heard it before, that Cueto was throwing a hissy fit having to pitch to Bart.
As a veteran, that doesn't play for me in any way.

Mordy, I, too, thought we played them tough!
Especially when one considers we were without Yaz and Solano, had a less than healthy Longoria at 3B, and were without Crawford.
I would not have signed Watson, though.
As the season progresses, he usually starts strong, and then limps home in the last month or two.
I would rather see the kids this season, even if they are doomed to take their lumps.
However, that said, Alfonso and Perralta just took up roster space.
I'm glad one is gone, and I hope the other joins him soon!

When Cueto comes back, one of the starters is going to the pen. Webb? Agree with Mordy, the bullpen needs work but I think they're going to try to solve it internally for the time being. Maybe they should give Kapler a Strat-O-Matic and have him learn how to manage a bullpen. I'm just hoping that they don't trade away the farm if they get within striking distance.

You're reading my mind, Reed!
At this point, I'm guessing Cueto slides into Sanchez' spot, because Aaron has trouble going even 5 innings.
However, IMHO, there is NO excuse for the bullpen.
None.
That falls on the front office, AND on Kapler.
Mostly on Kapler.
Yesterday when McGee once again imploded, we needed to run a vet our there; a vet like Wisler or even Littel.
Not a kid.
IMHO, that was foolish, and the chances of mental damage/set backs to Doval made it NOT worth the risk.
The kid is GOING to be very good.
But putting THAT kind of pressure on him, again, IMO, was nuts, but so typical of Kapler
As to Start-O-Matic, I've been playing Strat since 1964!
Love the game!
Kapler WOULD benefit by playing it, that's for sure, but honestly, Reed, I don't think he'll ever learn.
In bullpen management, he's like Frank Robinson and so many other former hitter/managers. They just don't get pitchers.
