I start with 2 parts to my premise:
1-Buster IS coming back to play next year, and if healthy, that's a really, really good thing!
2-Bart cannot sit, and Posey cannot sit. Both must play if healthy.
Buster is much better at calling a game, and is not bad, albeit awkward looking behind the plate/
Joey is much more polished and much more smooth defensively, but can't control a game as well as Buster.
Buster IS a leader. Period.
From what I saw in the final week of the season, Joey is GOING to be a leader, and a darned good one.
If we move Belt, one of them 'could' play 1B.
But that presents a problem because, and I'm assuming here (praying, really), that there will NOT be a DH next year.
Flores' best position is 1B.
In someways that is a good dilemma, in others, not so.
Why?
Because NONE of them can run a lick.
When they get on, it's station-to-station, and we must have some guys who can run.
Consider Posey, Bart, Flores and Dickerson ALL on the field at the same time.
Add Solano, or Crawford and that's 6 potential base cloggers.
If they were all capable of 20+ HRs, maybe that would work.
But the aren't, and thus the dilemma.
I am, and always have been a believer in team speed.
We have slightly more than nada with those 6 on the field.
Not good enough.
Will Buster return?
For me, that's the big question.
We sure could use his leadership and that's a fact.
But I'm guessing he's likely not to return.
In fact, I'm putting the odds at 65-35; 65 NOT, 35 IS.

The way the pandemic is going, I would be surprised if Buster came back.

Agree.
That's why I said what I said at the bottom of my post:
