During this series against the Padres, as soon as the at-bats became really important, these guys began pinching their butt cheeks so tightly together that they couldn't even execute at the plate.
That, is a fact!
Case in point, the game opened with Slater working the count to three balls and one strike and then instead of showing patience, chased a pitch 2 or 3 baseball's outside and hit a weak ground ball.
Longoria later on, lived up to the nickname I gave him, as the human rally killer, as once again he grounded into a double play.
You had Flores taking half-ass swings, chasing pictures that weren't good strikes, and trying to pull them.
Darin Ruf, taking two pictures right down the middle of the plate, and then swinging through another.
I have seen the above all too often, as a player, as a coach, and watching as a fan.
These guys are supposed to be professional hitters, but succumbing to the pressure as they did in this series, is absolutely unacceptable.
The guys that gave us good at-bats, two guys I didn't expect Devon and Crawford, both of whom hit home runs.
It just gets real tiring watching professional hitters Buckle under the pressure of a pennant race. Real tired!
Be very well may come back and win, but it's not because they were relaxed and ready to play from the first pitch
