The Prophet is now your new nickname, boagie, because based upon Kapler's total mismanagement of the pitching staff last night, you nailed the biggest hole in Kapler's game: No clue how to manage his pitchers.
In some respects, he reminds me of Dusty Baker and Frank Robinson, although all of them had different holes in their pitching management scheme.
Neither Frank nor Dusty had a clue to how pitchers functioned.
Neither did Alou, for that matter.
Dusty and Alou would get them up, sit them down, get the up, and sit them down.
Frank was just clueless.
He didn't understand their psyche at all, and treated them, IMHO, the NFL coaches treat their kickers.
Hey, I GET the part that some guys weren't available, and that he'd used some 3 days in a row.
By why in the world would he pull Sellman for Coonrod?
Sellman was sharp, and going one more inning wouldn't have been that big of a deal.
Especially considering the hitters due up.
Early in the season I supported his using Gott as he did after Gott got lit up.
The season was young and he had to "see" if Gott would rebound.
Last night was totally different.
Totally!
There were 2 games and 1 inning left in the season.
No time to fart around and "hope" that Coonrod could/would throw strikes.
His history should have been the road map.
At that point in time... at that...point...in... time strike dependability should have been the priority, not 'hope.'
Kapler can throw out all the rhetoric he wants on why he did what he did, but as far as I'm concerned, it's just one foolish move in a long, long...long list of foolish pitching decisions.
The problem is, we are stuck with him.
He's Farhan's fair-haired child, and because of that, he's going to get chance after chance after chance to keep the job.
Swell.
