Relief pitchers, closers, need to pitch, and pitch frequently to be sharp.
Ideally, most of them will tell you at the very least, they need to be out there every-other-day.
I guess Kapler didn't get that memo, because through 21 games, Gott has only appeared in 6.
6!
A closer ONLY in 6 games!
That's ridiculous, but ridiculous is the norm for our manager.
I've said it before, as the Phillies said before, Kapler has no clue how to run a staff.
But I guess the bigger question is, is HIS staff letting HIM know that closers need to pitch?
Or is he just ignoring them.
My money's on the latter.

It's not "more of the same". The last time the Giants blew a 5 run 9th inning lead was in 1929. That 1929 one was probably worse because there were 7 Hall of Famers on it. 1929 was the year they first used a pubic address system. I'm not implying John McGraw is as bad as Kapler but the only thing worse than a stats geek is a stats geek who doesn't understand the data or how to use the data properly. Scott Ostler gives Kapler a B+ but I think that's three levels too generous. I'm seeing that he's a notch above Jim Davenport and he's looking up at all the others.
The problem with the way Kapler uses his analytic system is that he probably thinks it gives him an edge over all the other teams. The problem is, most of the other teams are using analytics so there goes his supposed advantage. Truth be told, the data he gets keeps him from being hopelessly outclassed. Philadelphia fans probably realized it, also. From what I've read about his stint in Philly, he is a guy who will over-manage, double down when challenged about his mistakes, and will look ripped and cool in doing so.

You miss understand my subject, reed..."more of the same" refers to bad decisions by Kapler.
As I pointed out, and here's the quote, "Relief pitchers, closers, need to pitch, and pitch frequently to be sharp.
Ideally, most of them will tell you at the very least, they need to be out there every-other-day."
A closer CANNOT pitch only 7 times in 21 games and be effective.
They can't.
Thus my title is based on bad management.

Actually it worse than "more of the same". Its possible that Kapler is historically bad.

And since I was the one that posted it first, you know I agree.
Before the season began I question why kapler was even hired, based upon how badly he did in Philadelphia with a stacked lineup.
Now farhaan is expecting him to develop kids, just because he knows sabermetrics?
To me, that's a bad reason to get hired.

Boly, I dont think he knows his sabermetrics. Just because he has a lot of data on his iPad doesn't mean he knows how to use it. He's too darn bullheaded to realize he doesn't understand. For example, he can shift fielders wherever he wants but a lot of the errors are probably from players playing in spots they are not used to. Ball angles and throwing angles are different. If he knew the game better, he wouldn't plug and play Dubon, Solano, and Flores until they are ready. It's also affecting vets like Longoria, too. His biggest weakness so far is that he cannot handle the bullpen and especially how the three batter rule works.
This meltdown is for the best in the long run. Tank and draft will bring some more prospects and they'll probably trade Cueto, Gausman, and Smyly for more prospects. Hopefully, Kap will be gone by the time all the prospects are ready.

GREAT point, Reed!
Just because he uses sabermetrics doesn't mean he understands them.
I will take what you said one step further; he doesn't know when to apply them and when notto apply them.
And I loved, just loved you second point!
In fact, it's one I'VE been thinking of, also; He puts players in positions to which they are not accustomed, or worse, NOT very good at.
Solano at 3B, comes to mind, Longoria at the SS or 2B slot.
But it's more than the angles and the throws.
Having played extensively on both sides of the infield, and I can FIRST hand that the way your eyes see the ball off the bat is different.
I was a mediocre to poor SS, but at 2B? I was very, very good.
Kuiper has mentioned this many times also.
Some players just don't see the ball very well in different places on the infield.
I like Dubon... somewhat, but from my observations, the way he double clutches the ball and then does that hop, skip and throw from SS isn't going to get it done.
The SS does NOT have time for that, and I've never seen him change.
I like him in CF, or at worse, a utility guy who can play anywhere, he just isn't much better than average anywhere.
We sooooooooooooooo agree about Kapler and the bullpen.
He proved, and has admitted, he wasn't very good at it in Philadelphia, and from what I've seen, nothing has changed.
To me, he's the WORST handler of a pitchers in general, that I've seen since Frank Robinson.
Frank just didn't get pitchers at all.
Kapler, to me, is just a guy who looks at the metrics, plugs them into a formula, and makes a decision.
Period.
As I've said before, a robot could do that, or a computer.
If that's what the Giants want, why have Kapler?
But here's the thing; He's Farhan's guy, and as good as Farhan is at recognizing untapped talent; Kike Hernandez, Turner, Muncey, Mini-Yaz and some others, IMHO, he's flat out TERRIBLE at recognizing who can and who canNOT lead a team.
I see Farhan just as bull headed, just as stubborn about Kapler as Kapler is in his decision making.
I think we're stuck with the clod for at least 2 years.
IMHO, I would reevaluate Kapler at the end of this 60 game season basing my decision on him NOT based upon wins and losses, but about HIS moves, good and bad.
Right now, bad is winning and by a large margin.
