A couple of days prior to yesterday's game, in which Kuip pointed out that the defense was an issue, I was thinking the same thing and actually thought about posting such.
But since I'm so often negative, finding the negatives in the team and things in general, I decided not to.
But when Langoria booted that routine ground ball yesterday, and then watched Dickerson's ridiculous defense in RF, I realized that negative or not, I had to speak up.
Langoria's boot was the third player I've seen kick a routine ground ball in the last 7 games or so.
First it was Dubon, then Solano, and then Longoria.
At the major league level, that can't happen that frequently.
It just can't.
I also wondered why they put Dickerson in RF when he'd almost never played out there...foolishly succumbing to why Kapler told Kuip he was playing him out there.
BEFORE the game I remember thinking: Okay. I get the logic, but the angles of the ball off the bat are so different...I hope this doesn't come back to bite us.
Which, of course, it did.
Now I might not have coached at the major league level, but I've had experience with this type of thing before.
I've seen first hand what happens when you put a guy in a position he's not played very often.
Or do I need to remind everyone of Bob Brenly's 13,422 errors in one game when they stuck him at 3B.
As Kruk and Kuip have said so often, "...the ball always has a way of finding you..."
Which it did.
I've really liked the way Kapler gets EVERYONE involved, and it's not his fault the bullpen has, I say predictably, broken down recently, but he has to do something to get the defense playing better.
When steady gloves like Solano and Langoria are screwing up... something is wrong.
Defense, just like hitting, is contagious.
It needs to be fixed YESTERDAY.
