With the off season not bringing joy to SF fans, why not try and relive the past....and that clearly was the case with the Panda bring re-signed as he recoups from surgery. But now mutterings about bringing back Hunter Pence are emerging. Is this a consolation prize for fans …. or real value to the team?
Certainly these SF icons have the leadership quality which is needed in the clubhouse and will keep the team loose. They have power for pinch hitting roles and The Panda is an adequate replacement fielder. But is there gas left in the soon to be 37, Hunter Pence tank? He did hit 18 HRs in the band box park last year but just 3 of those after the all star break. He has played some outfield in 2019 but mostly acted a designated hitter.
I understand there is a 26th player allowed his year . can Hunter be that guy?

If I were to pick two guys to be the veteran presence in the clubhouse, Panda and Pence would be at the top of the list. I think Hunter and especially Pablo know that they probably only have one year left (if that) and want to finish off as a Giant. As a fan I like the idea, but logically, I think getting younger kids in those spots is better for the future.

I get the reasons you mentioned, boagie, for their clubhouse presence.
I also understand that Pablo's LH bat behind Longoria is important.
I love, and I mean, LOVE Pence...but I see his presence as just getting in the way and taking time away from some kids playing.
I really, really do.

I touched on that in the last sentence of my post, Boly, incase you missed it. I like both Pence and Sandoval, but I don't want them standing in the way of youth getting their chance. However, I think we'd rather have a young kid starting at triple A than sitting on the bench as the 5th outfielder.

I missed that, boagie. Sorry.
