Watching this roster get put together, reminds me of 1962, and the Mets and Colt 45's were putting their rosters together.
The Mets went for "names," hoping to draw crowds in for that reason.
They signed over the hill guys, and never made it guys like:
Ritchie Ashburn Gil Hodges Roger Craig Tracy Stallard Jay Hook Frank Thomas Charlie Neal Gene Woodling Ed Bouchee
The Colt 45's took a different path, drafting some old guys, but trying to establish their own name by getting younger guys... most of whom never made it, and others who simply never had been given a chance
Bob Aspromonte Al Spangler Carl Warwick Roman Mejias Ernie Fazio Ron Davis George Brunet Jim Golden Turk Farrell.
That's what I see with our roster.
Not that we're going anywhere, but we're talking fliers on a whole bunch of guys trying to find the next Chris Taylor, Max Muncey, Justin Turner...
It may work out for us.
But I suspect that, like those old Houston Colt 45's...we're not going to find much, if anything, that will stick with us.
But I do like Farhan's strategy; get some names who are vets, and then trade them at the deadline for any decent talent he can get.
We ain't going no where with the likes of Belt, Crawford, Longoria or Posey, that's for sure.
Not when the rest of the team is still trying to find their way.
Gonna be either fun watching the kids, or a long, long...long year if Kapler keeps running out those same old, tired players.
