Heres some interstig news about the farm system.... from MLB.com (see link) "….. San Francisco Giants While the Giants didn’t crack MLB Pipeline’s list of the Top 15 farm systems in August, they still had one of the most improved systems in 2019 and finished the year with four Top 100 prospects, more than they’ve had since MLB.com started ranking prospects. Much of that success is tied to San Francisco’s recent international efforts, which have netted the organization Marco Luciano and Alexander Canario, as well as a host of other young hitters. Former first-round picks Joey Bart (2018) and Heliot Ramos (’17) both advanced to Double-A together, and it might not be long until they’re joined by '19 first-rounder Hunter Bishop. And with an impressive crop of rising hitters in place, it will now be up to the Giants to develop pitchers capable of furthering the team’s resurgence in '20 and beyond....." www.mlb.com/giants/news/most-improved-farm-systems-in-baseball

I saw that article, Gary, and it was nice to see that we're moving in the right direction.
IMHO, it all starts with the farm system, and the previous guys pretty much depleted it.

It was partially depleted by winning and not having high draft picks. I was never a fan of trading young prospects for veterans, but I doubt we'd be a competitive team now even if we kept all the prospects.
That said, Zaidi has done a nice job at retooling the farm, I just hope he's not like these other stat geek GMs and actually can deliver on something more than being young and competitive.
It might be unfair expectations, but after 2010,'12 and '14, for me, if they fall short of winning a Championship it's a dissapointment.

Agree, boagie. That's what I'm looking at, too.
He's done a nice job... so far.

The only thing I think Zaidi has failed on is not trading Bumgarner at the deadline or not offering him a better contract. He should have done one of the two things. He seems to keep flip flopping on wanting to be competitive and wanting to rebuild.

Agree, boagie.
It just looked to me as if Zaidi was handling Bum as if he were some bacteria that may or may not have been helpful.
As if he didn't really want him, but was afraid to move him because of the ire he'd get from Giant fans.
His indecision, if it was that, IMHO, came back to burn him.
