THIS one hurts.
It hurts worse than Cepeda moving.
It hurts worse than McCovey moving.
It hurts worse than Will Clark moving.
hurts worse than Matty Williams moving.
It hurts way worse than seeing my hero, Mays, moved.
When Mays moved, I was too young to know better.
It flat out hurts because this one is unnecessary.
This one is stupid.
I can't think of any other word that fits.
I really can't.
We can do without vets everywhere else in the lineup as we rebuild, but not on the mound where the kids coming up NEED a guy with Bum's reputation leading the way and setting the example.
Cueto's English isn't good enough.
Jeffy doesn't have the resume.
This one is wrong.
Just flat out wrong!
What Farhan, and his obsession with numbers, has done, is reveal a fatal flaw in his, and all those who use numbers alone, ability to evaluate players.
1-Youngsters need leaders, and clearly, Farhan doesn't understand that.
2-This flaw also shows he doesn't understand the intangibles in the game.
I contend he got a bug up his fanny and went out and signed the wrong manager in Kapler...because THAT'S the guy HE wanted!
Nothing else mattered.
The final decision came down to a matter of ego.
His.
In the face of all the evidence against signing the guy,HE wanted Kapler, and that's all there was to it.
Kapler did not have a good track record, and the record he had, was going in the wrong direction.
Where was the use of sabermetrics on his signing?
Conspicuous by their absence.
The numbers showed Bum on the decline, and that's all there was to it.
Numbers didn't matter in Kapler's case, but they did here.
That's egotistical.
That's hypocritical.
In addition, I contend, and vehemently, that part of this move was made because Bum's a Bochy guy, and all traces of Bochy must be wiped clear so the team can have "his" stamp.
Can't have any latent traces of Bochy hanging around.
Not the same with Crawford and Posey and Belt.
They didn't have the same relationship with Bochy as Bum did.
Bochy liked them, but it wasn't the same.
Bum was "Bochy's" boy; his surrogate son
I've liked what Farhan has done to this point, but the last two moves, Kapler and this one, are ego moves, and they make no sense.
They just makes no sense, and they have soured my opinion of the man.
They stink of ego.
They stink of pride.
They stink of "I'm smarter 'n you are so I'll do what the heck I want."
They just stink.
This is not emotion for a favored player being moved, this is anger based upon 2 irrational moves made by a man who doesn't understand intangibles and character.
