It's rumored now the Dodgers are interested in Bumgarner. This cannot happen.
When Wilson left to go there it hurt a little, but not extensively. I liked Wilson, but he was a bit of a goofball, I knew he'd chase the money if the opportunity came up. Wilson didn't personify the chemistry that created 3 World Championships between 2010 and 2014.
The same thing for Romo. I liked Romo, but he was never really a the face of the Giants.
If Bumgarner becomes a Dodger it will damage the delicate framework of the Giants and Dodgers rivalry.
It will be like when Hershiser became a Giant. It never sat well with me. We were on the other side of that, but it still never felt right with him in the dugout.
Anywhere else and I'll deal with it, I won't like it, but I'll accept it. I will never accept Bum in Dodgers uniform.
I'll stop watching baseball if that happens, and Farhan will immediately become my most hated GM in Giants history.

I won't stop watching, boagie, but Bum to LA would hurt...BIG TIME.
I'd be forever disappointed in him.

You should be dissapointed in the Giants, not Bumgarner if that happens, Boly.
Bum wants to stay with the Giants, but the Giants have done very little to publicly express their interest in signing him. Where he chooses to go if the Giants don't present him with a deal that makes sense.
Keep in mind they've been underpaying him for ten years. Not giving him a lucrative contract now is a big ol' "FU" to Bumgarner. At that point I would not blame him at all if he chooses to suit up for our rivals to put a hurt on us for years to come. In his shoes any of us would likely do the same.

You're right; but I'd be disappointed in both.
The Giants should have treated Bum better, but if the man truly hates LA, as it seems he has, he shouldn't go there.
Decades back, the Dodgers traded Jackie Robinson to the Giants...but the trade fell through because Jackie REFUSED to play for the Giants.
That should hold true here, too.
Not the same with Kent; he was a mercenary out for himself from day one.
Kent was a greedy sob just like most in professional sports
To his credit, he never tried to deceive anyone about what he was.
Bum is not that guy
He was not a Giant draft guy.
Bum is.
That makes everything different.

Boagie- Contracts are quite a bit different now. I'm pretty sure Jackie Robinson would have a different response if he were getting paid the amount players get today. I can appreciate loyalty, but turning down gobs of money because you might be hurting some fans feelings is plain dumb. How on earth would you explain that to your wife and kids?

Jackie turned it down because he refused to play for the "Hated" Giants.
And as to money, multiple teams are going to be offering Bum big, big bucks, likely more than he's now worth.
He'll have his choice, but I wouldn't expect him to make that selection on what the fans want.
I hope he makes it on what he wants; and I'm praying he hates LA enough to go elsewhere.
This all could be settled if Farhan would just cut the crap and sign him.

Boagie said that Bum wants to return to the Giants, but there are conflicting reports on that. Last night it was said he only wants to pitch for a contender. That would leave the Giants out. From what I’ve also read, Bum has several teams interested in him, so if you’re upset if he signs with the Dodgers, your anger should be directed at him and not the team or Farhan Zaidi. That being said, he should take the best offer, and if that’s the Dodgers, I have no hard feelings in him taking the best deal for himself and his family. The thing I disagree with most vehemently is your statements about having to sign him to keep him from the Dodgers. If Zaidi determines the Giants need him, by all means outbid the Dodgers, but we’re talking about a HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS!! Are the Giants supposed to spend that ridiculous sum of money for a player they don’t need? He’s already declining so he only makes sense for a team looking to win right now. Imagine his decline in 2-3 years when the Giants are ready to win again. His contract will be what Posey, Belt and Crawford’s are right now. The idea you spend this kind of money to keep him away from the Dodgers is preposterous. The Braves are interested, the Twins are interested, the Phillies are interested. Madison has to do the right thing for Giants fans, not Zaidi. But again, no hard feelings from me if he goes to the Dodgers, do what’s best for yourself.

Jackie explained to the Giants that he was retiring and it had nothing to do with the trade to the Giants..... Don:
That's interesting, but it's contrary to what I have read over the years.
He hated the Giants, again, from what I've read, and said that he'd rather retire than play for them.

I’ve heard both stories about Jackie, but obviously him retiring because of the rivalry is the sexier story that add to the legend.

dk..there are so many stories about Robinson that one wonders really what the truth was....the people out here in the LA area tend to think O'Malley was in on the signing...O'Malley was the team's lawyer and was said (back East) that he was opposed to Rickey signing Jackie....in blowing up some of the stories about Jackie they made it sound as everyone was a raciest and made it tough on Jackie...many Whites rooted for Jackie...I had a black room mate and played with and against Black players in school....I think they had it a little better than me, as a Jew I had lots of crap thrown at me and I wasn't as big as Hank Greenberg to challenge the world.....Enos Slaughter was called a raciest because he spiked Jackie at a play at first base...Jackie was new to playing first and he had trouble with the foot work...he would some times place his foot on top of the bag...I personal saw a Giants (I think it was Davey Williams) take a terrible fall trying to avoid Jackies foot...Davey had to be carried off the field...no one on the Giants went after Jackie although later years Sal Maglie would "knock" him down with pitched balls...I also heard of other players who took bad falls avoiding stepping on Robinson's foot....
Other stories that really gall me is giving O'Malley credit for moving West...Stoneham was the guy who opened up the West...O'Malley got out bluffed by the brass in NYC when they wouldn't give him the land for a ball park in Brooklyn...O'Malley was major stock holder at the "sinking" LI Railroad...and O'Malley wanted the land next to the LIRR station in Brooklyn so that the fans who moved to Queens would use the RR to go to the games....after the NYC brass forced him to move west, the LIRR went bankrupt and was taken over by the Penn. RR...
The other story was making it out that the Dodgers lost Roberto Clemente by a foolish mist take and didn't realize how good he was...the Dodgers knew when Clemente was in Montreal that he was ready for the bigs despite his "numbers" and youth...every one in the International league cities knew and were shocked when Montreal benched him in the middle of the season to try to cover up his skills as they were not ready to have him on the Dodgers and yet didn't want to lose him to another team....the story going around was that O'Malley didn't want to have a second Latino on the team because the Dodgers were split into various factions of Whites and Blacks and he didn't want another with the Latinos....

I was a kid back East when this happened.
What came out was that the Giants were in bad shape attendance wise, and Jackie was a name that could pull in more interest. Robinson was aging quickly (he came in at 26 years old) and ready to retire, and business wise had a potential agreement for a front office job (also a name for that company in getting customers).
That it was 'the Giants', rattled cages and some said he refused to go, but I just think he was ready to call it quits.
