I read this article with growing disbelief.
Not that it's not an interesting article, but they keep raving about Duggar's defense, and frankly, I just don't see it.
www.mccoveychronicles.com/2019/11/26/20959596/sf-giants-season-review-steven-duggar-needs-more-time-but-will-he-get-it
This is part of the quote: "We can assume Duggar will keep doing what he’s been doing — hit poorly, play spectacular defense.."
Spectacular?
Seriously?
Pillar played spectacular defense.
Duggar was adequate at best.
I've watched him play too many games, of the few he's played, watched him NOT catch balls going over his head that Pillar or other CF's would have caught, to believe otherwise.
Roger may want us to see the numbers, but in this case, I'm betting on my eyes.
I've played too much CF, coached too many good, bad, and poor CF's to doubt my eyes on this one.
Duggar, IMHO, isn't as advertised.
He's much better than Marvin Benard, but he's still just adequate.
Disagree if you like, but that's what I see.

Thanks for the link. Bryan is a good guy and an excellent writer. I think you’re exaggerating a bit on what he said though. He’s not saying he’s a great outfielder, just showing how much better he is than the Giants present starting outfielders, and that is certainly true. I mean he used metrics to show Pillar is 19th best in baseball, and 19 is hardly spectacular. I disagree with him if he thinks Duggar will ever play a major role with this team because he isn’t a good hitter and he can’t stay healthy, but he is the best defensive OF on the team and I guess “spectacular” when compared to the others?

Respectfully, Mark, I have to disagree with part of what you said:
"...He’s not saying he’s a great outfielder..."
The writer called him "spectacular," and that means he's a great outfielder in my mind.
and I know what the metrics say, I just seriously, and I mean seriously disagree with using them to measure Pillar vs Duggar.
This is just one of many instances in which I contend the "eye" test is a better evaluator than the numbers.
Pillar gets to balls Duggar does not, especially balls hit over his head.
We aren't going to settle this now, but let's agree to watch those balls hit over Duggar's head when the season begins.
Then let's talk some more.
