I first heard Kapler about 2 seasons ago when the Giants were in Philthydelphia for a series.
He came off as the ultimate plastic man.
Since then I've heard him referred to as a corporation man; a corporate face, if you will, armed with sabermetrics and rhetoric seemingly written by the front office.
I can't believe that nonsense will play well with the players on the Giants, and indeed, based upon what I've heard transpired in Philly, it didn't play well with them either.
He sounds to me like a Joe Madden type of guy who believes the team revolves around HIM and not the players.
We don't need his crap. We really don't, and if we are STUPID enough to hire him, I will be extremely disappointed in Farhan, and honestly, all of the praise I've given Zaidi in the last month or so, will dissolve like Alka-Seltzer in a glass of water.

Most Giants fans don’t want Kapler to get the job because when he was with the Dodgers he was accused of sweeping sexual assault charges against two minor leaguers under the rug. I actually read the details and am skeptical that he did anything wrong. Apparently the girl was beat up by two female friends of the players and Kapler claims he was unaware that she later changed her story to include a sexual assault by one of the players. The Phillies certainly were satisfied by his explanation of events and I am too. That being said, as a Jets fan who sees Adam Gase being a disaster after failing in Miami, I don’t want a manager who just failed for another one of my teams. Espada is certainly my choice. What’s with the Philly hate, Boly? Was there in August and loved it.

Not Philly hate, Mark.
I always parody Bill Cosby who, prior to his sexual assault stuff, was my all time favorite comedian.
He always called it "Philthy-delphia."
I thought, and still think, it's funny, so I always use it.

Boagie- His solution to this was to invite all the parties involved to have a sit down and smooth things over. He didn't notify the authorities, which he absolutely should have done, I'm not sure how his actions can't be considered an attempt at sweeping it under the rug. If it wasn't that, then it was horribly poor judgement. Take your pick.

And just so I make my opinion clear, it's not that situation that makes me hesitant to see Kapler the Giants next skipper, it's his inability to get the Phillies into the post season when their roster was primed to easily make it.

Totally disagree about Kapler reporting it and also making the playoffs. Based on what he knew, two girls hit another girl, the players weren’t involved. Unless you think he’s lying, of course. And as for making the playoffs, just because they spent a ton of money it doesn’t mean you get in the playoffs automatically. Look at that division! The champs had Max, Corbin, and Strasburg in their rotation, the Braves had had Folty, Soroka and Keuchel the Mets had DeGrom, Thor and Wheeler, and who did the Phillies have? Arrietta? He was pitching with an elbow that needed surgery. Zach Eflin? Drew Smyly? All those teams could hit too! Wasn’t his fault they didn’t make the playoffs. That being said, he still didn’t do a good job there, I agree. And thanks to Reedonly for the link. Our old friend Alan’s last name was Reed. Are you related or even him?

I don't see how some girls getting in a fight would warrant the manager of the girls boyfriend's to get involved and call a sit down meeting. Explain it to me, Mark, maybe I'm missing part of the story.

I can't comment on the off the field stuff with Kapler, I just don't like HIM.
Every time I see him open his mouth, it's like he's auditioning for a part in Bull Durham.
It sounds practiced and memorized: "Yeah. We just take them one at a time..." blah, blah, blah.
Plus, I don't care for his 'rah-rah' style.
That doesn't play in the bigs.
With High school and College kids, yes.
But in the show? That wears think awfully fast... as I think it did in Philley

From Fansided. His first season is one thing. The Phillies best hitter that year was Rhys Hoskins but after that Carlos Santana. The pitching rotation was solid but nothing too overpowering behind Aaron Nola.
This past year was different. Bryce Harper. J.T. Realmuto. Andrew McCutchen (for a part of the season). And yet the team’s record was one win better? If you have that much talent and not a significantly better result, what does it say about your managing ability?

I completely agree that I don’t want him as our manager because he didn’t do a good job in Philadelphia, but I don’t agree they were a playoff team because of their terrible pitching. I’ve already mentioned that. As for the dinner, in his version of events the players were only indirectly involved, so why not a dinner to discuss the events so he can hear all sides of the story? Kind of funny to see the conservative Boagie take the #metoo side of this issue, something he doesn’t do when a GOP politician or Supreme Court candidate gets accused of something!

I don't really care what one's political affiliation might be, if sexual assault happened, it's wrong. If someone accuses someone of sexual assault and it didn't happen, that's just as wrong. The metoo movement happened because the liberal Hollywood elite decided to have "sit down meetings" and sweep it under the rug for years. That's wrong, and you think it's ok.
In the Harvey Weinstein case, we don't know who was assaulted and who's just looking for their pay day. In many cases, in my opinion, it was probably consensual sex with the promise of the advancement of one's career. That's sleazy and Weinstein should definitely be exposed for that, but I don't consider those who were on the other end of that as victims. On the other hand, you have women who accused Weinstein of physically forcing himself on them, which should definitely be prosecuted, and Weinstein should go to prison for a long time. The problem with this is too much time has passed, so it's hard for law enforcement to do their jobs and come up with enough evidence for the judicial system to convict someone without a reasonable doubt. This situation occurs because people have "sit down meetings" and sweep it under the rug, a strategy that you seem to support.
I have probably said things I shouldn't have, Mark. I've probably injected too much political jabs at you in the past, but I'm honestly trying to be better, and in this conversation I've tried to be civil. Despite the jabs, and remarks I should have refrained from, I like you, even if we do disagree from time to time. I agree with you a lot too, but this time I cannot. Hush money and "sit down meetings" are wrong. Sitting down and talking is fine when Law enforcement shouldn't be involved, but when there are accusations of sexual assault you don't have sit downs, that's called covering up a crime.

I apologize for bringing up politics once again on this board and and also want to be more civil when discussing delicate issues. Here I actually found it funny that you were on the more liberal side here while I was on the more conservative point of view so I felt I had to mention it. That being said, what makes it seem silly to me is that Kapler is being accused of a possible cover up, not that he ever personally did anything wrong to a woman, and we’re somehow comparing him to Harvey Weinstein, a disgusting human being who raped scores of young actresses? And once again, the bottom line is that the Dodgers, Phillies and now the Giants are aware of the details much better than we are, and have no problems with Kapler’s actions. That being said, what is taking Zaidi so long to make up his mind? Every other team besides Pittsburgh has named their new manager already. The Mets were taking heat in NYC for taking so long and even they’ve made up their mind, by hiring Boagie’s fave, Carlos Beltran. And the funniest thing is that unlike the other teams, Zaidi knew all year he was replacing the manager so you think he would have been the first to make a hire, not possibly the last. Was he not evaluating candidates in his mind all year? And why does he need two interviews with Kapler when he knows him already from his Dodger days? Make up your mind already!

I'm with your question, Mark. What the heck is taking Farhan so long?
It's like he's dragging out the process to a ridiculous level for reasons known only to himself.
If I had been in his shoes, I would have had certain things on my radar that I wanted in my new guy; things I would have already decided far in advance that I wanted, and others that were deal breakers.
I find this indecision troubling.
I'm hoping he gets it done THIS week.
Pick up your feet, Farhan, and stop dragging them!

I agree, the Giants are taking unnecessary time to pick a manager, that's something they should get done asap.
Now to me being conservative...I dont think that makes me more willing to ignore sexual assault accusations. I just think nobody should be convicted in the mainstream media before the facts come out. Sexual assault, in my opinion, shouldn't be divided by party lines.

Boagie, I actually read another article on the Kapler accusations and there’s actually a couple of other ones he didn’t mention in the blog, so I’m starting to agree with you about not hiring him for non baseball reasons as well as the baseball ones. But if you believe allegations in the media shouldn’t be disqualifying if not proven, why don’t you support Kapler, who was actually investigated and cleared by MLB? In conclusion though, why hire a controversial candidate who will upset people when you have other qualified candidates? Is he really that much better than the other choices? His record certainly says otherwise!
