One is my vacation trip in August. This one a Cruise through Alaska. Highlights were seeing 3 humpback whales breach in succession, They must have been trying out for the Pacific Insurance commercials. The others included large pods of killer whales, "petting a cobalt blue iceberg. Eating fresh baked Salmon and all you can eat fresh Dungeness crab. BTW the glaciers aren't disappearing, nor is the animals, and the great glacial ridge is gaining ice.
As to the Giants they were within 2 games of the Wild card when I left, kept Bumgarner (which I agree with), but dealt from strength in the relief department to gain some prospects. With Bochy's best ability IMO being his handling of the pen, he now didn’t have much to select. And the talent shortened Starting pitching was exposed even more and down they went.
The Fahidi acquisitions have improved the farm talent from the # 27th best to the18th best according to some evaluators. I like his acquisitions of Pillar, and Yastrzemski, and the draft choices are moving up. Add a semi-recovered Longoria and some strides are being made. But ultimately the team has non producers in Belt (a non aggressive power hitter?), Posey (his legs seem gone from catching and not there when batting off stride), and Crawford is a Jekyll-Hyde batter. Cueto was missed. And #3, 4, and 5 starters were often too unreliable. Scooter Genette was a swing and miss, as were several power possibilities.
But the Giants are a star hitter away from competing and the walls will be brought in, and the baseball changed to a more moderate one. I saw Fahidi in LA and there is a resemblance to what was done in LA. More power, more young players. What the Giants lack is that key guy like a Bellinger, a Freeman, a Yelich, etc and some 3-4-5 hitting that works together. Forget this strict R-L rotational lineups.
I'll drop in from time to time.
