I've beaten the Tony Watson horse enough, so this will be my last time.
Once again, he gives it up.
not that Smith was any better, but Watson just can't seem to get out of his own way.

Not that i give either of them a pass but the offense gave no support and when your closer needs a maintenance inning because your team is losing every day, you get what you get

Totally agree, Randy.
But Watson's continued terrible-ness has now gotten to the ridiculous phase.

Watson is 19th among NL pitchers in appearances and Smith is 24th, so their struggles are mystifying because you can’t blame it on overwork. Or can you? Let’s remember the team was awful early and is awful now, so not many appearances by your top set up man and closer, but they had that one glorious hot streak when they got back in it, and those two were out there almost every day. Could that be an explanation? They never recovered from that period? I guess it’s possible.

Sure, Mark, it's possible... but I'm not buying it.
I've watched Watson over the last couple of seasons, including his time in LA... and what I found is that after the break, he gets worse and worse and worse.
I remember vividly his time in LA and he was very hittable, just like he is now, and how hittable he was this time last year.
Smith isn't a closer. He doesn't have closer stuff, but I admire what he did not being that far removed from Tommy John surgery.
But as you said, he has NOT been over worked.
What I see is that he no longer has the command he did earlier.
I expect better from professionals, and if that's unreasonable, so be it.
No one is perfect, but I expect better and I expect them to be able to fix problems.
For both of them, this problem has been going on for almost 1 1/2 months.
Unacceptable.
