Well, with that well played, well pitched series, it's time for me, at least, to begin thinking and wondering what the front office is going to do in the off season.
I'll start with the position players.
Here's my guesses:
1-They will make a legit effort to trade Belt and Crawford, and I wish, Posey.
But the later will never happen.
a-Crawford "plays" old, though his glove is still solid, his bat, since the All Star break last year has almost been non-existent.
b-Belt is promise never realized. I think Farhan will want to go in a different direction.
2-They'll make a token attempt to retain Pillar, but won't really go out on a limb for him, which I think is a mistake.
a-He is JUST the type of position player we need to help the young kids coming up.
b-He is a Hunter Pence-type of guy, but unlike Pence, whom I believe was very vocal, Kevin leads by example.
c-He is so much better than Duggar in CF that it's not even close.
Forget about the diving, Superman, catches. I'm talking about his ability to go BACK on a ball and actually make the catch.
From what I've seen from Duggar, I've yet to see him do that.
If they think Duggar is ready, I think they need to re think that scenario. I'm not impressed.
3-I think they'll let Gennet walk. He can hit, but on defense, he's not even at Jeff Kent's quality.
a-His arm action for a 2B is too big; His release not quick enough on the pivot.
b-His range is questionable, and I believe less than Kent's.
4-Though I would like to give Shaw a shot next year, I'm inclined to think that they'll go out and sign one either through FA or trade.
5-In ST next year, I think they'll give long, long looks to Aveline and Dubon.
6-I'd like to think they are smart enough to resign Vogt, but I'm not holding my breath.
7-I think they'll make a legit offer to re sign Bum to an extension, much like the article I posted talking about what LA did with Kershaw.
I do NOT think they'll try to low-ball Bum.
8-It wouldn't surprise me to see them go out and get a starter either via a trade or FA.
a-Beede will get a long look, but clearly, he's now where near ready.
b-Rodriguez HAS to re discover his mechanics and then command of the strike zone.
9-Will Smith will get a legit offer, but I'm betting he walks.
10-I wouldn't be surprised for us to sign a closer.
Bottom line: The infield, outside of Longoria gets replaced, and the pitching staff gets at least 1/3 to 1/2 way re worked.
