I was trying to think of who Tyler Head Case reminds me of, and it just came to me; (even though many of you are not likely to agree)
Tyler Chatwood.
95+ mph fastball.
Really good movement on his heater.
Solid to very good stuff...that he can't command.
Chatwood should have become the # 1 guy for Colorado, but eventually, they got tired of his lack of command, too and shipped him off to Chicago.
Chicago was certain they could straighten him out... but they couldn't either.
so even though he's had his moments this year, he's still a guy with top stuff who can't command it.
Maybe he was Beede's role model.

And here I thought it was Steve Stone!

No, can't be Steve Stone because Stone actually won 107 games with a career ERA of 3.97.

And what did we see from Chatwood last night?
98 mph fastball.
Excellent movement on the heater.
Poor to very poor command of his stuff.
In short, Tyler Beede.

Regarding Stone, you are definitely right that he turned his career around. (Might there be hope for Tyler?) But Steve's reputation was "million dollar arm, 10 cent brain." I'm pretty sure that Tyler isn't dumb, but it's highly unlikely that Steve was either.
Here's a question for you: When Greg Maddux came up, he had a lot of stuff, but he couldn't control it. Was he afraid and a nibble, then suddenly figured out later how not to be afraid and not to nibble? Or did he learn to control his stuff?

Maddux was still learning to pitch that first season, and based upon his second season, he figured it out right away.
he was not and never was a head case like Beede.
Maddux had a nasty streak to him that Beede does not. And I've said basically that same thing since last year.

Rog -- What I was wondering though is that when Greg was struggling with both his command and his control, was he pitching tentatively, or was he simply missing? And how does one tell which is the case? Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/5544/figured-out-who#ixzz5xO6YU6Rm
