I, for one, always marvel at what pusses today's athletes are.
Duggar getting hurt is what I'm talking about.
He made the catch, which was a good catch, but, IMHO, FAR, FAR from a great catch, and did a great 'tuck-and-roll,' as he landed...and should have been fine.
But he came up hurt.
What?
This injury reminds me so much of my all time winner of the WUSSY award, Sean Estes.
I still remember his slide(?) into 2b vs the Mets, grabbing his ankle in pain while NOT making any attempt to get to 2nd base.
To me, that is UN excusable.
Yeah, he hurt it badly, but I've been in the same situation, severely tearing a hamstring as I was legging out a double in a game in Thailand while I was in the Military.
Pain off the pain charts, but I CLAWED my way to 2B before the throw so I wouldn't be out.
Not Sean.
He just laid there and cried.
He was playing for a World Series spot.
I was playing for a cheap trophy and my team.
To me, he was, and always will be nothing but a cry baby... .which is pretty much what I think of most of today's professional baseball players.

I agree with most of your post Boly...but Duggar did injure the same shoulder last season and as a person who has had a shoulder injury myself I will cut him some slack.

I'll take your word for things, then, Randy.
I've never had a shoulder injury.
What bothers me is that he did a perfect tuck and roll.
that should have taken all of the stress out of the landing.
That he hurt it AGAIN, tells me that the surgery was likely not well done, or not good enough.

What it tells me is his rotator cuff is stretched or frayed if not torn. He should get it surgically repaired in the offseason

This is a joke, right, Boly? The guy separated his surgically repaired shoulder trying to make a catch and you insult him? Someone seriously needs a cruise!

Boly had forgotten about Duggar's season-ending injury of last season.
Looking at the play, I saw no reason for an injury. But that is often the case with injuries. They simply happen, even if a play doesn't look threatening. And the fact that Steven had seriously injured the shoulder less than a year ago likely left it more vulnerable.
Any time a player dives or lands on a knee or in a manner that might threaten an ankle, there is a chance for injury. I remember eight years ago Carlos Beltran made a sliding catch in right field soon after the Giants had traded for him. Although nothing came of the play, I remember being scared initially that he might have re-injured his troublesome knee.
Anyway, we can't feel a player's pain, so I think the original comment here was way off base. I had a high pain tolerance when I played. But everyone is different. If someone has a low pain tolerance, does that make him a lesser human being?

On a somewhat related topic, Kevin Durant has vehemently denied that the Warriors unnecessarily exposed him to injury. The Warriors made the mistake of not originally recognizing the severity of Kevin's original injury, making it LOOK like they rushed him back, but I have read that both the Warriors' doctors and Durant's personal doctor cleared him to play.

I hadn't forgotten about the injury.
Not in the least.
Did I over react about Duggar?
Yes.
But this is a sore subject with me.
An open wound that hasn't and likely won't, ever heal.
I'm just sick and tired of every "boo-boo" stopping professionals from playing.
Not saying that this was some boo-boo.
I'm simply saying that's what spurred my irrational comment.
Today's players are pampered cry-babies, and I've flat out had enough of them.
And from my post you can see I'm still ticked at Sean Estes for his screaming fit at 2B when he twisted his ankle vs the Mets in the play offs.
I played to win!
Period.
I recounted my torn hamstring and my clawing my way to 2B so I WOULDN'T be out.
I was playing for nothing.
Estes was playing for a World Series spot, and to ME, what he did was total disrespect for his team mates.

Your commendable clawing your way to 2B so you wouldn't be out reminds me of my friend who passed away two years ago. Years ago he brought his wife to watch a softball game my team was playing. We wound up a man short, so he stepped in to play for us. Which meant he has playing on an all-grass field in slick Converse tennis shoes.
Now Bruce was a good hitter. His dad, a friend of Cookie Lavigetto whose own Italian parents wouldn't allow him to play professional ball even though he was apparently at least somewhere in the class of Cookie as a player. Bruce's dad arranged for him to get a minor league tryout, but Bruce declined (which I don't think any of us here would have).
So it wasn't a surprised when Bruce, swinging as a lefty, hit the ball over the head of the right fielder even though Bruce was several years older than the rest of us. And he would have had a home run too -- except that with the slick Converse tennies, he slipped between third base and home. Like you, Boly, he tried to crawl the rest of the way to the next base, but unlike you, failed comically in his effort. Fortunately, unlike you, he wasn't injured -- except perhaps in the pride area.
Hey, I can't imagine doing what Estes did either -- but I also didn't feel his pain. I do remember the last time I was injured playing ball though. Apparently my spikes must have caught, and my knee popped out of joint as I fouled off a pitch. Because I fouled the pitch, I didn't have to run, which was good, since I went down like a ton of bricks. I remember a severe flash of pain, but I had no idea until I was later told that I had literally screamed with the pain as I went down.
I get what you're saying, Boly. But we didn't feel Estes' pain. As for Duggar, give him at least SOME credit for being willing to go down on his shoulder despite the serious injury he suffered 11 months ago.
I was giving you the benefit of the doubt when I incorrectly said that you had forgotten Steven's injury. Knowing that Steven had suffered a serious injury to that shoulder less than a year earlier makes the reaction all the more questionable IMO.

His leg wasn't broken.
And if you've ever RIPPED a hamstring, you'd understand the pain.
If they aren't close, I don't know what is.

And if you've ever RIPPED a hamstring, you'd understand the pain. Rog -- I HAVE ripped a hamstring. It still bothers me. Did it making a cut in football. Yes, it was indeed painful. What was weird about it is that after a couple of weeks, I bent over slightly and heard what sounded like I had dropped a watermelon. Then I was REALLY worried. But when I straightened up, I realized that the loud exploding sound was actually the injury breaking through the swelling, and I was on the way to recovery. Most of my injuries occurred in sandlot situations, and I rarely got treatment for them or even properly cared for them myself. In retrospect, I was suffering from that syndrome of the young where we feel that we are indestructible. I have (minor) issues now that probably could have been avoided or certainly reduced with proper treatment. Read more: sfgiantsmessageboard.proboards.com/thread/5506/tough-guy#ixzz5w8KIM9VZ
