From today's MLB Trade Rumors chat:
Q: Adam Duvall is now a trade chip, yes or no?
A: Because he's hit well for 17 games in AAA? No one wants Adam Duvall right now -- at least not to the point where they'd give anything up to acquire him (or even take on the entirety of his salary)
Sounds like the Giants could pick up Duvall for next to nothing if they chose to do so. His loss didn't turn out to be as big a deal as some thought a year or two ago.
In the same chat, Steve Adams was asked if Ian Happ for Will Smith made sense. Happ is the type of versatile young player who could make sense for the Giants. Strikes out way too much, but has power and IIRC gets on base. Adams answered that the Cubs wouldn't give up Happ for a rental, and we've discussed that Smith can become eligible for free agency after this season.
In order to get as much as they would like, the Giants may have to package Madison Bumgarner with a reliever. For a contender at the deadline trying to shore up both hits rotation and its bullpen, that might make some sense.
