Spring Training games certainly don't count, but based upon the Giant bats these last 4 games, does it make any difference?
The same pathetic at bats I saw in all 3 games vs Oakland, were present again last night.
Very few balls hit hard.
Very few.
If our hitters have a plan at the plate, that's news to me because they looked ill prepared for virtually every pitch I saw.
But what's even worse from my perspective is this: The number of swings and misses or barely fouled off pitches that were right down the heat of the plate.
Sound familiar?
It's the same thing I ranted about all of last year.
I watched it re birth itself during the Oakland series, and travel with us to San Diego yesterday.
The pitching was very good. In fact, Bum looked like his old self.
But if you can't score, even against a mediocre starter like Lauer, you have no choice.
Sheesh.
I hate it when predictions I have like this one come true.

My plan of blowing it all up doesnt sound so bad now eh? It couldn't be much worse than the pile of crap we've been watching

The two bright spots have been Bumgarner (who's considered the best trading chip) and Longoria (who would be on the top of your list of players to get rid of.)

I would trade both of them as soon as a good offer came in.
One thing about this season is that if the Giants get off to a slow start, it may become very clear very fast that it's time to sell. The Giants are unlikely to be competitive, and without a strong start, the odds drop even further.
Last season's team won their first two games, dropped the next three, and reached their high point of the season at 19-15, before losing six in a row and 15 of their next 22. Still, the Giants were somehow at .500 entering September.

What is it stats geeks don't get, Randy? You've never been able to answer that question, leading one to believe that you're all about illusion and evasion. Evidence to the contrary would be much appreciated.

I don't think there is a brick wall, but I think you're banging with a very hard head.
If you truly knew something that was important that I couldn't figure out, surely you could summarize it in a hundred words or so. If there is anything of import about baseball that you know that I don't, I'd love to learn it. Your knowledge of baseball seems to have stopped growing, Randy, while I keep trying to learn more every day.
Nothing would make me happier if you could teach me something of value.

Roger, I'd like to put this topic to bed once and for all.
Both of us HAVE explained why sabermetrics people who've never played the game don't get it.
You disagree.
That's your prerogative.

I really don't recall anything of significance, but perhaps I've simply forgotten. Could you just summarize it for me in 100 or so words to jog my memory?

I don't wish to go into again, Rog. I want the topic put to bed.
Randy and I have one opinion of stats guys who never played the game, you have another.
let's leave it at that.
